Mumbai, October 9, 2024 – Ratan Naval Tata, the esteemed former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away at the age of 86. Tata, who transformed the Tata Group into a global powerhouse, breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where he was admitted for routine medical evaluations earlier this week.

Ratan Tata’s leadership spanned over two decades, from 1991 to 2012, during which he spearheaded the expansion of the Tata Group into international markets and launched several innovative products. His tenure saw the acquisition of global brands like Jaguar Land Rover and Corus Steel, significantly enhancing the group’s global footprint.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, calling Tata "a visionary business leader whose contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation". Tributes have poured in from across the globe, highlighting his dedication to philanthropy, particularly in education and healthcare.

Born on December 28, 1937, Ratan Tata was a scion of the illustrious Tata family. He completed his education in Mumbai and later earned a degree in Architecture from Cornell University, followed by the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School1. His legacy of resilience, growth, and unmatched vision will continue to inspire future generations.

The Tata Group, in a statement, said, "More than just a chairperson, he was a mentor, guide, and friend. His genuine humility in every interaction will be remembered".

Ratan Tata’s passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished and remembered by many.
