Renault Bigster 7-Seater Spotted in India

Renault is preparing to launch the new-generation Duster and a larger 7-seater SUV, the Bigster, in India. Recent spy images show a heavily camouflaged Bigster prototype testing on Indian roads. The Bigster will be positioned above the new Duster and may keep its international name for the Indian market. Renault India is updating its entire vehicle lineup. Design and Features

Renault Bigster Front Profile

The Bigster test vehicle was seen with temporary red registration plates in Tamil Nadu. Despite heavy camouflage, some design elements are visible. The front features a wide horizontal LED DRL signature, similar to the global Duster. The main headlamps sit lower, creating a layered lighting effect. The grille and bumper remain hidden, but the SUV’s proportions suggest a bold and upright stance.

From the side, the Bigster displays a large, boxy silhouette, typical for a three-row SUV. The test car uses large alloy wheels, estimated at 19 inches, and pronounced wheel arch cladding. A tall roofline and extended rear overhang indicate space for a third row of seats. At the rear, the SUV has a sporty roof spoiler and vertical tail lamps, though much of the design is concealed.

Interior and Powertrain

Interior details are not visible, but the Bigster is expected to offer a feature-rich cabin for the Indian market. Likely features include a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, push-button start, keyless entry, and rear AC vents. Higher trims may add ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a premium audio system, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The Bigster will likely share powertrain options with the new Duster. The three-row SUV is not expected to offer the entry-level 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Instead, it should come with a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine producing 163 PS and 280 Nm, paired with a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission. Renault may also introduce a 1.8-litre E-Tech strong hybrid powertrain, providing better efficiency and electric driving capability at low speeds. Diesel engines will not be available, as Renault is shifting towards hybrid and electric technologies.

Launch Timeline and Strategy

The new-generation Duster is set to launch on 17 March 2026. The Bigster 7-seater is confirmed for launch later in 2026 or early 2027. The Bridger SUV will arrive by the end of 2027. By launching these three models, Renault aims to strengthen its presence in India’s SUV market and recover lost momentum.

Verdict

The Renault Bigster looks set to make a strong impression in India’s three-row SUV segment. With its bold design, spacious cabin, and modern tech, it complements the new Duster and upcoming Bridger perfectly. Sharing efficient petrol and hybrid powertrains, the Bigster could attract families seeking premium features. Renault’s refreshed lineup may help the brand regain SUV market share.
