Renault Group CEO Francois Provost has revealed the company's most ambitious product launch plan for India. Renault will introduce seven new models and two new vehicle architectures, covering electric, hybrid, CNG, and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. This announcement follows the global launch of Renault's FutureReady mid-term plan.
Key Highlights
- Renault will launch seven new models in India by 2030
- Two new vehicle architectures will support electric, hybrid, CNG, and ICE vehicles
- The company aims for 5 percent market share and top three global market status for India
- Localisation levels of up to 90 percent will improve cost competitiveness
- Over 6,000 engineers in Chennai support global R&D and technology development
Provost addressed the Indian media for the first time, placing India at the center of Renault's global growth strategy. He stated that the company aims to make India one of its top three markets worldwide by 2030. Renault targets a 5 percent market share in India, supported by its largest-ever product renewal cycle.
India Strategy and Market Focus

India accounts for over one-third of Renault's global market presence. Provost highlighted the importance of being competitive in India to strengthen Renault globally. He pointed to India's young, tech-savvy customer base and value-driven market as key factors shaping the company's approach.
Renault's India roadmap centers on expanding its product portfolio to seven models by 2030. These models will include ICE, full hybrid, and fully electric vehicles. This marks a shift from Renault's previous limited line-up to a broader, multi-powertrain strategy. The company aligns its India strategy with the global FuturREady transformation plan, which emphasizes profitability, localization, and technology-led differentiation.
Dual Approach and Localisation
Renault's strategy relies on two pillars. The "India for India" pillar empowers the local leadership team to respond quickly to market needs. The "India for the world" pillar positions India as a global hub for cost competitiveness and exports. Decision-making autonomy has increased for the India team, led by CEO Stéphane Deblaise, to better address the domestic market's pace and complexity.
India will also serve as a strategic export base. Renault plans to use local manufacturing and engineering capabilities to support global programs. Two new platforms will drive Renault's India push. An entry-level architecture will be managed from India for global markets, while a modular platform will see India play a key development role.
Engineering, R&D, and Future Plans
Renault targets localization levels of up to 90 percent to improve cost competitiveness and reduce supply chain risks. India is also becoming an important engineering and innovation hub for Renault. Over 6,000 engineers work at Renault's Chennai operations, making it one of the group's largest global R&D centers. This capability will support the development of new technologies for both domestic and international markets.
Renault's renewed India strategy comes as the company seeks to rebuild scale after a period of limited product activity. The planned product launches, deep localization, and new platforms are expected to help Renault increase volumes and market share in India.
