Royal Enfieldis preparing to expand its adventure motorcycle lineup with a new model, reportedly codenamed D4G. The upcoming motorcycle is expected to be called the Himalayan 440. This model aims to revive the accessibility and simplicity of the original Himalayan 411 while adopting mechanical updates from the Scram 440.
Key Highlights
- Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 to use 443cc single-cylinder engine with 25.4 HP and 34 Nm torque
- Design expected to echo Himalayan 411 with utilitarian styling and accessible 800 mm seat height
- The feature list may include switchable ABS and Tripper navigation but not advanced electronics
- Expected price range between Rs 2.40 lakhs and Rs 2.60 lakhs ex-showroom
- Launch likely in the second half of the year
Design and Mechanical Details
The Himalayan 440 will likely draw visual inspiration from the original Himalayan 411. It will retain a utilitarian design and rugged appearance. This approach targets riders who appreciated the straightforward nature of the earlier model, especially compared to the larger and more premium Himalayan 450.
The new motorcycle is expected to use the 443cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine from the Scram 440. This engine produces about 25.4 HP and 34 Nm of torque. It will be paired with a 6-speed gearbox. While these performance figures are expected to remain similar, minor adjustments may occur before launch.
Chassis, Features, and Pricing
The Himalayan 440 may share its chassis with the Scram 440 but could feature longer-travel suspension for improved off-road capability. The wheel setup is expected to include a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear, similar to the older Himalayan, and use dual-purpose tyres. It is not clear if tubeless-compatible spoke wheels will be available.
The seat height is likely to remain around 800 mm, a key factor in the Himalayan 411’s popularity. This should make the new model accessible to a wider range of riders. The focus will remain on essential features. The Himalayan 440 may offer switchable ABS and the Tripper navigation system. However, advanced electronics such as riding modes or traction control are not expected.
Design updates could include new colors, graphics, and LED lighting elements. The expected ex-showroom price will range from Rs. 2.40 lakhs to Rs. 2.60 lakhs. The Himalayan 440 is expected to be positioned between the Scram 440 and the Himalayan 450 in Royal Enfield’s lineup. A launch is anticipated in the second half of the year.
CarBike 360 Says
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 could become the ideal middle ground for riders who want the original Himalayan’s simplicity with a stronger 443cc engine and a more practical setup. If the company keeps the design familiar and pricing competitive, the motorcycle may appeal to both touring riders and everyday commuters. Its launch will be closely watched by adventure bike fans across India.
