Skoda Auto is set to begin bookings for its sub-4 metre SUV, Kylaq, on December 2, 2024. This marks a crucial milestone for the Czech automaker in India. As part of its promotional offer, Skoda will provide the first 33,333 buyers a complimentary three-year standard maintenance package, reducing ownership costs to just 24 paise per kilometer.
Kylaq Pricing and Variants
The Kylaq will be available in four variants:
- Classic (Manual Only): ₹7.89 lakh
- Signature
- Signature+
- Prestige (Automatic): ₹14.4 lakh
All variants, except the Classic, offer an automatic transmission option, ensuring a mix for diverse customer preferences.

Expanding to Tier 2/3 Cities
Recognizing growing demand in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, Skoda plans to enhance its presence in these regions, adding over 100 touchpoints. While metro markets lean heavily toward automatic cars (85-90%), manual transmission dominates the smaller cities at 90%.
Strong Customer Interest
The Kylaq has already garnered significant interest, with over 160,000 expressions of interest ahead of bookings. Skoda anticipates a positive response as customers experience the SUV’s European design, advanced features, and competitive pricing.
Value Proposition
To combat the perception of high maintenance costs, Skoda emphasizes that the Kylaq, like its siblings Kushaq and Slavia, benefits from high localization and affordable maintenance costs. The free maintenance offer is a unique selling point aimed at convincing buyers of the SUV’s value.
Balancing Kylaq with Kushaq
The introduction of the Kylaq could potentially impact demand for the Kushaq, especially its 1.0L TSI variant, due to the price overlap. However, the 1.5L TSI version of the Kushaq remains unaffected, ensuring both models cater to distinct market segments.
Future Focus
Production of the Kylaq will commence at the Chakan plant in December, with the first batch expected by January. Additionally, Skoda is developing a new retail strategy to highlight the value proposition of its entire portfolio.
