The e VITARA, Suzuki Motor Corporation's first battery electric vehicle (BEV) to be mass-produced, represents a major turning point in the company's electric vehicle development. The e-VITARA, which was unveiled in Milan, Italy, will be manufactured at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India. Production is expected to commence in the spring of 2025, and worldwide sales are expected to begin in the summer of the same year, with a focus on markets in Europe, India, and Japan.
The Concept and Design of e-Vitara
The "eVX" concept car, which debuted at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2023 and the Auto Expo in India in January 2023, is the foundation of the e VITARA. Known as Suzuki's first worldwide strategic BEV, the e VITARA epitomises the idea of the "Emotional Versatile Cruiser," appealing to adventurous drivers by fusing cutting-edge technology with tough performance.
The e VITARA's exterior, which has a "High-Tech & Adventure" concept, has a long wheelbase, aggressive tires with a high diameter, and eye-catching SUV-like looks. This idea is also present in the inside, which has a central console, sturdy panels, and an integrated display to create a strong and technologically advanced atmosphere.
Key Features of the e VITARA
Advanced BEV Powertrain
Lithium iron-phosphate batteries power the eVITARA's effective eAxle system, which combines the motor and inverter. An enjoyable and dependable driving experience is provided by this configuration, which guarantees quick acceleration from a stop and acute reactivity while passing.
Electric 4WD System ALLGRIP-e
With two separate eAxles and Suzuki's cutting-edge "ALLGRIP-e" technology, the e VITARA has strong 4WD capabilities. Additionally, the system has a Trail mode with a limited-slip differential (LSD) function that transfers torque to wheels with improved traction, allowing for smooth departures from rugged terrain.
The HEARTECT-e Platform
The recently created HEARTECT-e platform, which has a lightweight construction, high-voltage protection, and more interior room, is made especially for BEVs. By eliminating underfloor members, its arrangement optimizes battery capacity while bolstering the e VITARA's roomy form.
Interior and Features
The e Vitara’s interior brings a contemporary upgrade with:
- Dual-Screen Console: A floating infotainment and digital instrumentation setup.
- Gloss Black Center Console: Featuring a storage area with USB ports below.
- Innovative Features: Includes an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, adaptive cruise control, single-zone climate control, and wireless charging.
The rear seat setup offers ample legroom and headroom, ISOFIX mounts, and three-point seatbelts, making it family-friendly.
President Suzuki's Vision
The e VITARA's position in Suzuki's overall mobility plan was highlighted by President Suzuki, who also emphasised the company's commitment to a carbon-neutral society. Suzuki intends to provide regionally specific hybrid and CNG vehicles in addition to BEVs. A major step toward this goal is the e VITARA, and Suzuki intends to further grow its BEV selection internationally.
