Tata Altroz EV Launch Put on Hold: Delay in Premium Electric Hatchback
Tata Motors has postponed the launch of the Altroz EV due to engineering challenges, particularly with battery integration and ground clearance.
Tata Motors’ much-anticipated Altroz EV has been put on hold due to some technical challenges. The brand first showcased the car as a concept vehicle at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Then it was also put on display at the 2020 Auto Expo. Codenamed Ascot, the Altroz EV might be expected to be a game-changer in India’s electric vehicle market. After the successful sale of Nexon EV, Tata might move on to the next big thing with Altroz.
However, due to some circumstances, the pre-production of the vehicle has been put on hold. There had been further delays, which we have seen before, and now the vehicle production has been moved further till December.
Why Has the Tata Altroz EV Been Delayed?

The primary reason behind the delay is the challenge of battery packaging and integration. As per the configuration, the battery is placed under the floor of the vehicle, and this gives rise to its optimal weight distribution. To cope with the distribution, Tata has significantly reduced the ground clearance of the car by about 20 mm.
This deduction can bring the clearance down to around 145 mm, which is considered inadequate for Indian road conditions. In India, high ground clearance is considered a necessary option more than a feature in today’s season. To improve with this problem, the brand attempted to increase ride height, as this would compromise the car’s design proportions and vehicle dynamics.
