Tata Avinya X Design and Features

The Avinya X test mule closely resembles the concept showcased last year, featuring a low-roof and elongated silhouette. The front end sports a connected LED lightbar below the bonnet and LED headlamps mounted on the upper half of the bumper. The rounded shape of the front end and estate-like profile give the SUV a premium appearance.

Frameless windows and pop-out door handles further enhance the upscale look. The side profile stands out with large, likely 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a sharply raked windscreen, differing from traditional tall SUVs. Although camouflage conceals some details, the clean side profile is expected to remain true to the original concept.

The rear section introduces new design elements for Tata, including two-layered LED tail lamps that are probably connected. The rear wiper is hidden under the spoiler, following Tata's recent design trend. The tailgate is expected to display Avinya branding, while the bumper houses the number plate and reflectors.

Platform, Powertrain, and Launch Timeline

The Tata Avinya X is built on the Chery-JLR Freelander platform, a joint development between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. This platform will support Avinya X as the first product from the new brand, with a launch planned for early 2027. Tata also plans to introduce a sedan under the Avinya brand at a later stage.

While specific battery details are not yet available, the Avinya X is expected to share technology with the Freelander 8. This includes an 800 V architecture-based powertrain and a large battery pack estimated between 80 and 90 kWh. Avinya may also offer full hybrid models in the future.

Market Position and Competition

The Tata Avinya X is projected to compete with models like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron in the Rs 35-45 lakh price segment. Although it currently lacks a direct EV competitor, the segment is expected to see new entrants over the next two years. The Avinya brand announcement may occur by the end of this year.

The introduction of Avinya marks Tata Motors' entry into a higher price bracket, targeting customers seeking premium electric vehicles. The Rs 35-45 lakh segment is expanding, with increased competition from Chinese brands and growing demand for aspirational EVs in India.
