In a bid to revolutionize the CNG vehicle market in India, Tata Motors has unveiled an industry-first – the CNG automatic variants of its popular models, the Tiago and Tigor. With bookings now open at an initial amount of Rs. 21,000, these vehicles mark a significant step forward by combining Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) technology with Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). This innovation not only enhances the driving experience but also addresses the growing demand for fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly options in the automotive sector.
The Tiago CNG AMT will be available in three exciting variants – XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG, and XZA NRG. Simultaneously, the Tigor CNG AMT will be offered in two variants – XZA CNG and XZA+ CNG. As part of this update, Tata is introducing new and vibrant color options, such as the Tornado Blue shade for the Tiago, Grassland Beige for the Tiago NRG, and Meteor Bronze for the Tigor.

Under the hood, both the Tiago and Tigor CNG variants boast a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) coupled with a robust 1.2-litre three-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine. Despite the transition to CNG, these models are expected to deliver an impressive 72 bhp and 95 Nm of peak torque, ensuring a performance comparable to their petrol counterparts. Tata assures a seamless driving experience, highlighting high restart gradeability and easy creep behaviour for effortless parking and low-speed manoeuvres.
The introduction of twin-cylinder technology not only contributes to the efficient performance of the Tiago and Tigor CNG but also enhances their practicality by freeing up additional space in the boot. Alongside these innovations, the models will retain a host of features from their manual counterparts, including a smart infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, and HVAC unit.

The Tiago CNG is currently priced from Rs. 6.55 lakh onwards, while the Tigor CNG starts at Rs. 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom). With the advent of CNG automatic variants, prices are expected to see a premium increase of Rs. 50,000-60,000. In the market, the Tiago CNG AT will compete with Maruti Suzuki Wagon R CNG, Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG, and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG. Simultaneously, the Tigor CNG AT will face off against the Hyundai Aura CNG and Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG.
Tata Motors has offered enthusiasts a sneak peek with a teaser, building anticipation for the imminent launch of the Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT variants. Expected to be available in XT and XZ+ variants, these models are assured to retain their distinctive design elements, providing a seamless transition for existing fans and attracting new customers.
As the first CNG cars in India to feature automatic transmission, the Tiago and Tigor CNG AMT variants aim to set a new benchmark in the segment. Despite a marginal drop in fuel efficiency compared to their manual counterparts, these offerings are expected to redefine the driving experience in the CNG segment. Looking ahead, Tata Motors may extend this technology to other models, potentially including the Tata Punch and Tata Altroz with AMT options. The launch of these models is eagerly awaited, as they promise to open new doors in the automotive landscape, shaping the future of CNG-powered vehicles in India.

As anticipation builds for the official launch, these models are assured to contribute significantly to Tata's commitment to innovation and environmentally conscious mobility.
