Tata Motors, one of India's leading automotive manufacturers, reported robust sales figures for January 2024, showcasing a commendable year-on-year (YoY) growth of 6 percent. The total sales, combining domestic and export figures, reached an impressive 84,276 units, surpassing both the previous month's record and the numbers from January 2023.

Passenger Vehicles Take the Lead

In the passenger vehicle (PV) segment, Tata Motors witnessed a significant surge in sales. The company sold 53,633 units in January 2024, marking an impressive YoY growth of 11.77 percent. The month-on-month (MoM) comparison was even more remarkable, with a growth rate of 23.38 percent. This surge translated to a total of 54,033 PVs sold in January 2024, reflecting a robust 12 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Strong Presence in Electric Vehicles

Tata Motors' commitment to electric vehicles (EVs) is evident in the sales figures, with the EV lineup contributing to the overall growth. The company showcased several innovative models, including the Nexon CNG, Curvv, Safari Dark, and Altroz Racer, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024.

Commercial Vehicle Sales Present a Mixed Picture

While the passenger vehicle segment experienced significant growth, Tata Motors faced a 2 percent de-growth in total commercial vehicle (CV) sales, which amounted to 32,092 units in January 2024. The dynamics within the CV segment were varied.

Global Demand Boosts Commercial Vehicle Exports

On the international front, Tata Motors experienced a noteworthy 33 percent YoY increase in commercial vehicle exports. Global demand for Tata commercial vehicles rose from 1,086 units in January 2023 to 1,449 units in January 2024.
