Tata Motors has removed specific variants from its Tata Punch lineup, particularly under the Adventure persona. Tata has a strong hold in the sub 4-metre category and specially Punch has decent sales performance so discontinuing few variants can affect the sales. Variants like petrol and CNG options with manual and AMT gearbox will be discontinued.
Engine Options Remain Unchanged
The popular 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is offered in petrol-only and petrol+CNG versions, is still present in the Tata Punch despite the variation changes. With 13,711 units sold in September 2024 alone, the Punch is now Tata Motors' best-selling vehicle thanks in large part to its engine.
Adventure and Adventure Rhythm Variants Discontinued
In late October 2024, Tata Motors formally discontinued the Adventure and Adventure Rhythm trims from the Punch range. These trims, which were situated slightly above the standard "Pure" persona, provided consumers on a tight budget with a feature-rich choice. Since these trims are no longer offered, the Punch Adventure S is now the entry-level model for customers looking for a better experience than the base model.
- Adventure Petrol MT: Previously priced at Rs 7 lakh (Ex-showroom)
- Adventure S MT: Now the starting point for upgraded features at Rs 7.6 lakh (Ex-showroom)
The change also affects the AMT versions
- Adventure AMT: Previously priced at Rs 7.6 lakh (Ex-showroom)
- Adventure S AMT: Now starts at Rs 8.2 lakh (Ex-showroom)
In contrast to the previous Adventure iCNG, which started at Rs 7.95 lakh (ex-showroom), customers now had to choose the Adventure S iCNG, which costs Rs 8.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
According to the update, Tata Motors could be concentrating on marketing Adventure series models with sunroofs in addition to perhaps catering to increased customer demand for this feature. Even in mid-range cars, the sunroof has grown in popularity among Indian buyers despite the country's largely sunny environment.
Remaining Lineup and Features
The Tata Punch portfolio, which offers a variety of features across the remaining personalities, is mostly unchanged save from the Adventure and Adventure Rhythm trims. In keeping with current market trends, this repositioning gives the portfolio a clearer point of uniqueness and could encourage customers to choose models with sunroofs.
In conclusion
Tata has made deliberate revisions in response to consumer trends and seasonal needs by discontinuing some trims in the Punch portfolio. Tata Motors' action suggests the increasing need for feature-rich alternatives as the Indian automotive market develops, possibly paving the way for further innovation in future models.
