Renault will launch the all-new Duster in India tomorrow. The Duster, first introduced in 2012, helped popularize the compact SUV segment in the country. The segment is now led by models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. With this new-generation Duster, Renault aims to regain its position by offering a fresh design, updated interiors, more features, and multiple engine options, including the segment's most powerful turbo-petrol and a hybrid.

Platform, Powertrain, and Features

The India-spec Duster uses Renault’s RGMP platform, not the global CMF-B platform. The RGMP platform is designed for Indian conditions and supports a range of vehicles, from small cars to large SUVs. It allows for different seating layouts, including 5, 6, or 7 seats, and can accommodate various powertrains such as petrol, hybrid, CNG, and future electric options.

Renault has improved the Duster’s driving stability with a rear stabiliser bar to reduce body roll and enhance stability during quick turns. The braking system uses low-steel brake pads for better performance and heat control. The electric power steering features a strong motor, making steering light in city conditions and stable at higher speeds.

Interior and Safety Enhancements

The new Duster’s interior features a redesigned dashboard with two digital screens: one for infotainment and another for the driver’s display. The cabin includes leatherette seats, contrast stitching, and premium trim. Physical buttons remain for key controls, making them easy to use while driving. Additional features include ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, ambient lighting, a powered tailgate, and a 518-litre boot.

Modern features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, electronic stability control, and all-wheel disc brakes. The Duster will also offer Level 2 ADAS features, and Renault aims for a 5-star crash safety rating.

Engine Options and Market Position

The new Duster will offer three engine options, including a 1.3-litre turbo petrol mild-hybrid with dual-injection technology for improved performance and efficiency. The expected starting price is around Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom). After launch, the Duster will compete with midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and MG Astor.
