Citroen India has recently launched the highly anticipated, all-new Basalt X in India. With an impressive host of specs and features, the car is poised to take out the rivals, such as the Hyundai Creta, Tata Curvv, and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Priced at an introductory price of Rs 12.89 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, the Basalt X aims to fulfill the Indian demands for a premium yet value-driven car for both personal and business driving.
Built for modern executives and families, the Basalt X’s bold silhouette and refreshed black-and-brown cabin set it apart from rivals. Its competitive pricing and feature-rich package seek to capture buyers in the growing upper-compact SUV landscape, targeting those who prioritize style without sacrificing utility.

The recently launched Citroen Basalt X embodies modernity with an upright SUV coupe silhouette in its design. While looking at the side of the car, the sporty elongation adds a rugged stance. The car looks a lot like the previously released C3X, yet the difference lies in the newly introduced horizontal LED Vision projector headlamp on the front fascia. At the rear, the car gets an all-new suffix of the ‘X’ emblem.
While cosmetic updates are subtle, the Basalt X arches on the dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels bring exclusivity. This also brings comfort and reliability with Citroen Advanced Comfort Suspension. The coupe-SUV’s sloping roofline and angular body lines make the car more refined and position it as a bold alternative to typical compact crossovers and SUVs.

Inside, the Basalt X offers a dual-tone black and tan cabin theme. While stepping inside the car, you might notice that all leather upholstery is now contrasted with a tan-brown and black scheme within the package. This will give the driver and the passengers a more premium luxury feel than the regular Basalt. To give the luxury stance, the cabin features a sofa area, a dashboard panel for leather upholstery, and carved mood ambient lighting.

The dashboard boasts a newly designed 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch driver's display system, integrated with the My Citroen Connect 2.0 app with over 40+ smart features. For safety, the car comes with 6 airbags as standard, a tire pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, ISOFIX mounts, and a 360-degree camera.

The Basalt X comes with a host of specs and features, including front ventilated seats, adaptive cruise control with speed limiter, a push-start button, and a rear center armrest with two cupholders to raise interior comfort and appeal. Furthermore, the vehicle also offers keyless entry, a fog lamp LED setup, and a driver and co-passenger request sensor. The most sophisticated feature that makes this car look special is the introduction of CARA.
The CARA is a new in-car voice assistant equipped in the Basalt X, which can perform many different tasks, such as optimizing traffic signals and routes, providing vehicle health status updates, calling and receiving alerts, SOS, and real-time flight tracking. As your personal in-vehicle assistant, you can make CARA check weather updates, take vehicle expert support, and personalize your life.

Under the hood, the powertrain units remain the same; the all-new Basalt X gets three different powertrain options to choose from. Firstly, it gets a 1.2L PureTech naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 82 HP and 115 Nm of torque. Then comes the 1.2L turbo engine, revving at about 110 HP and 205 Nm of peak torque.
The naturally aspirated engine comes with a 5-speed manual transmission as a standard option. The 1.2L turbocharged engine offers both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission system. Both engines are powerful enough to propel the car to a top speed of 190 kmph.
The 2025 Citroen Basalt X comes with three distinct trim levels. The standard or entry-level model is the You, then comes the mid-trim level Plus, and the top-of-the-line is the Max trim. The entry-level model is priced at Rs 7.95 lakh with a single engine option. While the Plus and the Max trim levels get the most advanced 1.2L turbo petrol engine, priced in the range from Rs 9.42 lakh to Rs 12.89 lakh in India. All prices are ex-showroom.
The Citroen Basalt X’s launch signals Citroen’s follow-through on expanding its business footprint by implementing the new Citroen 2.0 strategy in India. As the powertrain options remain the same, the X suffix will not be enough to attract customers. For buyers who want to experience a new, enhanced avatar that gives a more upmarket look, the Basalt X will be the ideal choice.
