The French automaker, Citroen, is making plans to expand its business operations in India. As per the latest reports, the brand has recently announced the date for its upcoming vehicle, Basalt X, and now the same car’s standard model has been registered as the medical car for the official racing event in India. Furthermore, the car is also registered as the safety car for India’s National Racing Championship.
Citroen has announced a business partnership deal with JK Tyre for the 28th edition of the National Racing Championship for the 2025 season. This collaboration will complement Citroen's commitment and plans to support the motorsport event in India, which is already on the back foot. Basalt will be the authorized safety car on the track, ensuring that prompt medical and safety feedback is provided throughout the racing event.
The Citroen Basalt is one of the few cars that have taken part as the premium safety asset for the JKNRC in India. Previously, this was designated to the Volkswagen Polo GT. Now that Volkswagen has left India, its support for Indian motorsport has also left. However, things are now changing, and for the 2025 iteration of the National Racing Championship, Basalt has been designated as both the safety and medical car.
As safety and quick medical response are critical at racing events, Basalt’s selection reflects its reliability, safety technology, and performance. Along with its medical and trackside duties assigned, Basalt will also perform stunts and drifts, demonstrating its precise handling, driving, and control through the corners. With this participation in the event, Citroen could boost sales of its cars in India.

Motorsport racing is a dangerous sport, and the car used in the racing underwent various stages of trial and testing as per the laws made by the Motorsport Federation Club of India. Similarly, for Basalt, the organization has to look at its seats and performance on the road while electing it as a trackside safety car, questioning the safety of its own rather than others.
The Basalt coupe-SUV boasts a commendable 4-star rating from the Bharat NCAP safety crash tests, making it one of the safest vehicles in its segment in India. Under such tested trial and safety ranks, Citroen has kept safety a top priority as a manufacturer. The company Basalt comes with 6 standard airbags and ABS with EBD.
Other additional interior spec highlights include ESP, Hill Control Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and reverse parking sensors.
Citroen taking part in racing events is not a new thing. The brand has been competing in the biggest global motorsport racing event in the world for ages. The automaker has been represented in the Paris-Dakar Rally and also won many drivers' as well as constructors' titles at the World Rally Championship (WRC).
By providing the safety and medical car, Citroen not only ensures high safety standards for the event but also gains brand visibility amongst India’s motorsport community, enhancing brand perception as a performance- and safety-centric automaker. This will surely highlight the sales and brand awareness to the people of India.
With the Citroen Basalt as the official safety and medical car, the 2025 JK Tyre National Racing Championship promises enhanced safety protocols and swift emergency responses on race days. The car offers a commitment to provide advanced safety and motorsport excellence in India, where motorsport and its future are all kept on the back foot.
