Significance for Valeo and Mahindra
This development marks a significant step for both Valeo and Mahindra. For Valeo, it expands its manufacturing footprint in India for high-value electric vehicle components. For Mahindra, it ensures a local supply of critical powertrain systems as the company prepares to launch a new generation of electric SUVs under the Born Electric platform.
Executives from both companies have stated that this move supports ongoing localization efforts within the Indian electric vehicle ecosystem. Xavier Dupont, CEO of Valeo’s power division, noted that local production strengthens the company’s ability to support customers with advanced technologies. Jayakumar G, president of Valeo India, emphasized that the new line brings advanced manufacturing closer to customers and demonstrates Valeo’s long-term commitment to the Indian market.
Localisation and Growth Strategy

The commissioning of the Pune e-axle line comes as automakers in India increase efforts to localize key electric vehicle components. Localization helps manage costs and reduce supply chain risks. Mahindra’s Born Electric platform is central to its future product strategy, and local production of e-powertrain systems is expected to play a crucial role in scaling up volumes.
Valeo has announced an aggressive growth plan for India as part of its global ‘Elevate 2028’ roadmap. The company has committed over €200 million in investments in India over the next three years. Valeo aims to increase its local revenues from about €220 million currently to around €700 million by 2028. This growth will be driven mainly by the localization of electrification and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The Pune e-axle manufacturing line is a key element of Valeo’s strategy. It positions India as both a manufacturing base and a hub for developing and supplying next-generation mobility technologies. Valeo’s investment in Pune aligns with its global roadmap, which identifies India as a major growth market for electrification technologies.
