VinFast, a Vietnamese carmaker, has reached a critical milestone in its worldwide development strategy by starting deliveries of its flagship electric SUV, the VF9, in both the United States and Canada. The first units were distributed to consumers during an exclusive event in Los Angeles, signalling the brand's launch into the North American market.
The introduction of the VF9 in North America not only expands VinFast's footprint in the area, but also reinforces the company's goals to become a major player in the worldwide electric vehicle (EV) industry. VinFast's launch into the US and Canadian markets aims to carve out a competitive position alongside major automakers.
Affordable Pricing for North America
There are two versions of the VF9 available in the US: Echo and Plus. The pricing of the Plus version starts at $73,800, while the Echo version costs $69,800. These costs are far less than what VinFast had previously predicted, with the Echo version starting at $83,000 and the Plus version at $91,000.
Impressive Performance and Range
The VF9 has a strong 300 kW electric motor and a 123 kWh battery pack under the hood. According to the WLTP homologation cycle, this configuration permits a driving range of 580–594 km on a single charge, depending on the version. A direct current (DC) fast charger can charge the battery from 10% to 70% in approximately 35 minutes thanks to the vehicle's ultra-quick charging capability.
A Spacious Family SUV
With three rows of seats and room for up to seven people, the VF9 is made to accommodate big families. It competes with other family-oriented electric SUVs in the North American market, such the Kia EV9 and the Cadillac Vistiq, and is positioned slightly above the VF8 in VinFast's SUV lineup. With dimensions of 5.12 meters by 2.25 meters by 1.70 meters, the VF9 provides plenty of room for both people and goods.
VinFast’s North American Presence
With 15 showrooms and 36 distributors spread across 15 states, VinFast has made great progress in building its footprint in the United States. The brand has 57 recognized service locations and 10 distributors in Canada. The business intends to begin local manufacture at a new factory in North Carolina, which should be operational by the end of the decade, even though it presently imports all of its vehicles from Vietnam.
VinFast’s Future Plans
The launch of the VF9 represents just the beginning of VinFast’s broader strategy to become a major player in the electric vehicle market. As the company continues to expand its footprint in North America and beyond, it aims to introduce more electric vehicles, including the possibility of local production in the U.S. to meet growing demand. Soon we can expect the launch of VF9 in India in 2025.
