Volkswagen has announced to commence bookings for its upcoming Volkswagen Golf GTI on May 5, with the price announcement to take place by the end of the month. The Golf is one of the most iconic four-wheelers, and the first-time automaker will bring its flagship model as a full import, meaning no compromise on performance and features.

With the debut of the new Golf GTI, it will be the second GTI-based model in India. Previously, the automaker offered a 3-door Polo GTI to Indian customers. Customers interested in buying the upcoming Golf GTI can confirm their booking through Volkswagen India’s official website, where the bookings will only be open for a limited time.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Powertrain

The upcoming Volkswagen Golf GTI will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox powering the front wheels. This 2.0-liter petrol engine will deliver 265 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Volkswagen claims that the Golf GTI will accelerate 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and achieve the top speed of 250 km/h.

As a performance hatchback, the Golf GTI will outpace even the MINI Cooper S, currently offering a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine delivering 204 horsepower.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Exterior Design

The upcoming hatchback from Volkswagen is expected to have sporty design elements with 18-inch alloy wheels, GTI badges, and twin exhaust tips at the rear. It will also feature five-piece lighting elements on dual-tone front bumper and LED DRLs out of headlamps and into the grille. Volkswagen Golf GTI is said to be available in four color options: Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White Premium, Moonstone Grey Black, and Kings Red Premium.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Interior Features

Inside the cabin, the Golf GTI is expected to borrow several interior features from the recently launched Tiguan R Line in India, including a 15-inch central touchscreen and a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It will feature a GTI-themed steering wheel and sports seats with GTI badging. The India-spec Golf GTI will also feature tartan seat upholstery in international-spec models.

Volkswagen Golf GTI Price in India (Expected)

While the official price details are unavailable, the Golf GTI in India is expected to be around Rs 50 lakh or even more. In India, the Volkswagen Golf GTI will see competition from MINI Cooper S, available at Rs 44.90 lakh to Rs 55.90 lakh.
