Tata Motors is set to launch the new Sierra EV today, expanding its electric vehicle lineup. The company will announce pricing later, but key details about the electric SUV are now available. The Sierra EV will fill a gap between the Tata Curvv EV and Harrier EV, targeting a competitive segment that includes the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, Maruti eVitara, Toyota Ebella, and VinFast VF7.
Key Highlights
- Tata Sierra EV launch expands Tata's electric SUV lineup
- Expected starting price is Rs 18 lakh ex-showroom across six variants
- Features include 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery options and QWD dual-motor setup
- Advanced safety features include Level 2 ADAS and six airbags
- Competes with Hyundai Creta Electric and Mahindra BE 6
Positioning and Expected Pricing
The Tata Sierra EV is expected to come in six variants. Prices are likely to start at Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), which is about Rs 1 lakh higher than the base Curvv EV Accomplished X 55 trim, priced at Rs 16.99 lakh. The higher starting price is attributed to the Sierra EV's larger 65 kWh battery in the base trim, compared to the Curvv EV's 55 kWh unit.
The top-spec Sierra EV will likely share a QWD dual-motor setup with the Harrier EV and may feature a 75 kWh battery pack. This could bring its price closer to the Harrier EV, which is priced between Rs 21.49 lakh and Rs 30.23 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Curvv EV ranges from Rs 16.99 lakh to Rs 19.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sierra EV will be positioned between these two models in Tata's portfolio.
Key Features and Safety Equipment
The Sierra EV will offer several advanced features. These include a three-screen display setup, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a heads-up display, and a panoramic sunroof. The driver seat will be 6-way power-adjustable. Other amenities include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered tailgate, wireless phone charger, air purifier, and ventilated front seats.
For safety, the Sierra EV is expected to feature Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), all-wheel disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, auto park assist, hill hold assist (HHA), and traction control. Additional features may include Auto Park assist, Digital IRVM, and Summon Mode, which allows the vehicle to move forward or backward using the keyfob.
Powertrain and Charging Capabilities
The Sierra EV will use a dual-motor QWD setup, similar to the Harrier EV. Tata Motors is expected to offer both 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery pack options. The claimed range is based on MIDC Part 1 and Part 2 standards. The rear motor produces 238 PS, while the front motor delivers 158 PS. The SUV will be available in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
The Sierra EV will support 120 kW DC fast charging. It will also offer EV-specific features such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities.
Market Competition
The Tata Sierra EV will compete with electric crossovers such as the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Toyota Ebella, VinFast VF7, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.
