- Volkswagen begins production of Taigun facelift at Pune plant
- Over 1.43 lakh Taigun units produced since 2021 with 30 percent exported
- Facelift brings updated design, new features, and improved technology
- Engine options remain with possible new 8 speed automatic for 1 litre TSI
- Current 5 star safety rating expected to continue in facelifted model
Production and Export Details
The Pune facility produces the Taigun with a high level of localisation. This plant supplies vehicles for both domestic and export markets. Since its initial launch in 2021, Volkswagen has produced over 1.43 lakh units of the Taigun. Of these, around 30% have been exported to global markets.
Design and Feature Updates
The facelifted Taigun features a refreshed design with new signature elements. Volkswagen has confirmed updated styling and enhancements based on customer feedback. The changes focus on improving usability, comfort, and convenience for daily use.
The updated model is expected to include new lighting elements, revised bumpers, and a sharper design language. Feature upgrades are also likely, aiming to provide a more premium in-cabin experience and improved technology.
Interior and Technology Enhancements
Inside, the Taigun facelift is expected to adopt updates seen in the recent Skoda Kushaq facelift. Possible additions include a larger touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an upgraded tech package. Features such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, and enhanced connectivity options are also likely. These updates are intended to improve comfort and convenience as feature-rich offerings become standard in the segment.
Engine and Transmission Options
The Taigun facelift is expected to retain its current turbo petrol engine options. These include a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing 115 PS and a 1.5-litre TSI engine delivering 150 PS. A significant update may be the introduction of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre engine, replacing the current 6-speed automatic. The 1.5-litre engine is likely to continue with the 7-speed DSG transmission.
Safety and Driving Dynamics
Volkswagen states the new Taigun is engineered for Indian driving conditions while maintaining European driving dynamics and comfort. The current Taigun holds a 5-star safety rating, and similar standards are expected for the facelifted model.
With production underway and the launch approaching, the new Taigun is set to bring updates in design, features, and overall appeal. These changes aim to strengthen Volkswagen’s position in the competitive mid-size SUV segment.
