Bajaj is coming with a new launch of its electric scooter lineup, popularly known as Chetak. This scooter is one of the best three e-scooters in India after Ather Energy 450x Gen and Hero Electric Optima CX. The name "Chetak" has a rich legacy, inspired by a horse ridden by an Indian warrior, Maharana Pratap, in the 16th century. You can imagine the popularity of this scooter by the fact that it once had a 5 to 10-year waiting period. Thanks to new models, price reductions, continuous upgrades, and an expanding service network, Chetak has secured its position as the third best-selling electric scooter in India. Now, bajaj has confirmed the launch of Nex-Gen Chetak on 20 December.
What is Upgraded in the all-new Chetak?
The Chetak has remained visually the same since its debut in 2020. However, this time, the company has incorporated major upgrades such as a new chassis which is lighter than the one currently used in existing Chetak models. This upgrade is expected to enhance the scooter's range. In the teaser image, Bajaj Auto has used the phrases "The Best Chetak Yet" along with "Fully Lifeproof," which suggests a strong emphasis on rider safety. As a result, we can expect new safety features to be introduced with this model.
Moreover, similar to the Raft Indus NX electric scooter, the Chetak is likely to feature the battery on the footboard, freeing up more space in the under-seat storage. Now, let’s take a quick look at the details:
Overview of The Scooter
- Model Name - Bajaj Chetak (Next-Gen)
- Price range - Expected to remain close to the current 96,000 and Rs 1.29 lakh
- Chassis - New lightweight chassis for better performance and handling
- Range- Expected to exceed the current 123-137 km range on a full charge.
- Motor Power - 4.2 kW BLDC
- Battery Capacity- 2.88 kWh
- Charging Time - Approximately 3 hours 35 minutes for full charge.
- Top Speed - 63 km/h (current), expected to be higher in the new model.
- Weight- 134 kg (current), expected to be lighter in the new model.
- Brakes - Front Disc, Rear Drum
Market Impact
With the launch of this Nex-Gen Chetak, the market impact is expected to power up Bajaj’s position in the Indian e-two-wheeler market. While most aspects of the scooter will likely remain the same, we may see some new color options, which will probably be the only visual change.
The new generation Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is expected to launch on December 20. Prices are likely to stay close to the current model, which ranges between ₹96,000 and ₹1.29 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
