Bajaj Auto, a prominent motorcycle exporter in India, is poised to bring about significant changes in the Indian two-wheeler market with the introduction of a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) motorcycle and an electric version of its renowned Chetak scooter. Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, shed light on the company's ambitious plans.
Pioneering the CNG Motorcycle Initiative
The focus of Bajaj's upcoming endeavors is the launch of a CNG motorcycle, slated for release in the upcoming quarter. Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj highlighted the company's strategy, saying, “We believe that a CNG motorcycle should appeal to consumers at each of these displacements points (100cc, 125cc and 150-160cc) and that gives us the opportunity to build a portfolio, as against just one motorcycle," Rajiv Bajaj said in response to a question on ambitions of having a CNG portfolio of two-wheelers. This will be a such initiative globally, Bajaj added, to package a CNG cylinder in a motorcycle.”
Innovative Solutions for Packaging
Bajaj is committed to tackling the challenge of integrating a CNG cylinder into a motorcycle, a feat not yet achieved on a global scale. By incorporating the cylinder seamlessly within the motorcycle's structure, Bajaj aims to optimize space utilization while ensuring adherence to safety and performance standards.
Introduction of the Electric Chetak Variant
In addition to the CNG motorcycle, Bajaj Auto is experiencing notable growth in the electric vehicle segment, particularly with its Chetak brand. The electric variant of the Chetak has witnessed substantial year-on-year monthly growth, prompting plans for a new release in the upcoming quarter. Rajiv Bajaj expressed ambitions to double production to 20,000 Chetaks per month, emphasizing the company's dedication to sustainable mobility solutions.
The Bruzer 125: Targeting Specific Markets
Expected to be called Bruzer 125, the upcoming 125cc commuter motorcycle, is strategically aimed at semi-urban and rural markets, offering an economical transportation option. With an anticipated price range of ₹80,000-₹85,000, the Bruzer 125 is positioned to appeal to price-conscious consumers seeking fuel-efficient alternatives.

Focus on Fuel Efficiency and Performance
Despite potential performance differences compared to conventional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) motorcycles, the Bruzer 125 promises exceptional fuel efficiency. Bajaj has ingeniously overcome packaging challenges by strategically placing the CNG tank within the motorcycle's frame, setting a new standard in mileage.
Key Features Highlighted
Key features of the Bruzer 125 will include telescopic fork and twin-shock suspension systems, along with front disc brake options equipped with Combined Braking System (CBS). These features will ensure a harmonious blend of performance and practicality, perfectly suited for daily commuting needs.
