2026 Tata Tiago Facelift vs Old Tata Tiago: Key Differences Explained

For nearly a decade, the Tata Tiago has been the sensible, value-packed starter hatchback for Indian families, first-time buyers, and fleet operators alike. Now, the 2026 Tiago facelift steps in with a sharper design, a more upscale cabin, and a long list of tech and safety upgrades without disturbing the core formula that made it popular.

What Tata has essentially done is modernize the Tiago for 2026, not reinvent it. The familiar 1.2-litre petrol and factory CNG options stay, but the way you experience the car. This story breaks down how the new Tiago differs from the outgoing model and what that really means for buyers.

2026 Tata Tiago Facelift Vs. Old Tata Tiago: Exterior Design and Styling

The biggest change you notice is right at the front. The older Tiago had a rounded, friendlier face with large halogen headlamps, a prominent chrome strip running into the lights, and conventional fog lamps. The 2026 facelift goes for a much sharper, almost Altroz-inspired nose with sleeker LED headlamps, eyebrow-style LED DRLs, and a cleaner gloss-black grille.

The bumper design has also moved on from silver accents and chunky halogen fogs to more sophisticated pixel-style LED fog lamp housings and vertical elements that visually widen the car. From certain angles, the new Tiago simply looks more mature and premium than the outgoing hatchback, without losing its compact city-friendly footprint.

Tata has sensibly kept the silhouette the same, which means maneuverability and parking ease are intact. But details like the new dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels, black wheel-arch cladding, blacked-out ORVMs, and a shark-fin antenna immediately make the facelifted Tiago look fresher and more youthful than the older car’s simpler side treatment.

At the rear, the visual leap is even more obvious. The outgoing Tiago used modest, standalone tail lamps and a relatively simple bumper. The 2026 Tata Tiago car brings in a connected-style LED taillamp setup with three vertical LED elements and a gloss-black strip linking them.

Step inside, and it feels like the Tiago has jumped a generation. The old car’s cabin, while functional, had a darker theme, more upright elements, and a traditional instrument cluster. The facelift introduces a new light grey and black interior theme with a flatter, horizontally oriented dashboard and fabric inserts on the top half, immediately lifting perceived quality.

Gloss-black detailing on the centre console, steering wheel, and door armrests adds visual drama, even if it may be prone to fingerprints. The highlight is the new free-standing 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen perched neatly on the dash, accompanied by a modern floating digital driver’s display that replaces the older, more conventional cluster.

Engine & Performance

Under the skin, Tata has deliberately kept things familiar. Both the outgoing Tiago and the 2026 facelift use the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine, producing around 86 PS and 113 Nm in petrol guise. Factory-fitted CNG variants continue to be offered, with slightly lower power output but significantly lower running costs.

Transmission options remain a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT for both petrol and CNG versions. That means existing owners will find the driving basics familiar: easy low-speed manners, light controls, and efficiency figures in the region of 19 to 20 kmpl for petrol and around 26 km/kg for CNG.

Technology & Updated Features

The older Tiago offered a smaller touchscreen, basic connectivity, and limited charging options in most variants. The facelifted model, in contrast, brings a 10.25-inch free-floating infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on higher trims. Tata has gone a step further by offering dual wireless phone chargers in the centre console. You also get dual Type-C charging ports, rear USB charging, rear AC vents, and seatback pockets, all of which directly improve day-to-day usability compared to the older Tiago.

Another headline upgrade is the addition of a 360-degree camera system, with camera pods visible in the front bumper and under the ORVMs. This is a feature the older Tiago simply didn’t offer, and it could position the 2026 car as one of the most affordable hatchbacks in India with this level of camera tech.

Safety Specs

Safety has been a core talking point for Tata, and the Tiago facelift builds on that narrative. The outgoing car already offered ABS with EBD, dual airbags, ISOFIX mounts, and a strong body structure, along with rear parking sensors and a camera on higher variants.

CarBike 360 Says

Overall, the 2026 Tata Tiago facelift feels like a meaningful upgrade over the outgoing model, especially in terms of styling, cabin appeal, and convenience features. With modern additions like a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and a fresher interior, it now looks better suited to today’s buyers. At the same time, Tata has wisely retained the familiar engine options, ensuring the Tiago remains practical and affordable.
