The next generation of the MG Astor, known globally as the MG ZS, has been teased ahead of its global debut. This new iteration of the compact SUV brings exciting updates, including the introduction of hybrid technology. A recent spy video revealed the 'Hybrid+' badging on the SUV, indicating the addition of a self-charging hybrid system.
Hybrid Technology at the Core
At the heart of the 2025 MG Astor Hybrid+ is a self-charging hybrid system, similar to the one found in the MG3. This system combines an Atkinson cycle petrol engine with an electric motor, powered by a 1.83 kWh NCM lithium-ion battery pack. This setup allows for short-distance pure electric driving, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.
Comprehensive Design Overhaul
The 2025 MG Astor also receives a significant design update, giving it a sportier and more modern appearance, in line with other global models like the MG3 and MG HS. Key exterior updates include a revamped front fascia featuring new LED headlights, a redesigned grille, and updated bumpers and air intakes. The SUV also boasts new alloy wheels, tail lights, and a revised rear bumper. Additionally, MG has refined the Astor’s chassis to improve its driving dynamics.
Interior Refinements and Features
While details about the interior upgrades are still under wraps, MG has hinted at the use of high-quality materials in the cabin of the updated Astor. It is anticipated that the SUV will feature a dual-screen setup for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Other expected features include power-adjustable front seats, a 360-degree camera system, wireless charging, and an enhanced Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with new functionalities.
Market Launch and Competition
The 2025 MG Astor is expected to launch in the European market in September 2024, with an Indian release anticipated in 2025. Upon its launch, the updated MG Astor will compete in the compact SUV segment, facing rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and new entrants such as the Citroen Basalt and Tata Curvv.
This next generation of the MG Astor promises to deliver improved performance, modern styling, and advanced technology, making it a strong contender in the competitive compact SUV market.
