The 4.2m to 4.5m SUV segment recorded significant growth in March 2026. Total sales reached 76,789 units, marking a 49.35% year-on-year increase from 51,416 units in March 2025. Compared to February 2026, when 69,531 units were sold, the segment grew by 10.44% month-on-month. The segment now features 17 models, with the Renault Duster being the latest addition.

Segment Leaders and Sales Figures
Hyundai Creta and Creta EV led the segment, selling 17,838 units in March 2026. This was a slight 1.22% decrease year-on-year. Despite new launches, Creta maintained its position as the top-selling model, reflecting its strong market presence.
Maruti Victoris ranked second with 11,062 units sold. As a new entrant, Victoris quickly impacted the market and appears to have affected Grand Vitara sales. Grand Vitara sales fell 35.25% year-on-year to 6,746 units. Combined, Victoris and Grand Vitara sales totaled 17,808 units, just 30 units behind Creta.
Kia Seltos secured third place with 11,041 units, achieving a 69.21% year-on-year increase. This was the highest monthly sales for Seltos since the launch of its new generation in January 2026.
Toyota HyRyder followed with 10,206 units, up 93.08% year-on-year. This growth highlights the rising demand for hybrid SUVs in this segment.
Tata Sierra came fifth, selling 9,003 units. This was its highest monthly figure since deliveries began earlier in the year.
Other Key Models and Market Trends
Honda Elevate maintained stable sales at 2,467 units, with little change year-on-year. Skoda Kushaq saw a sharp rise to 2,307 units, up 157.19% year-on-year, as new deliveries boosted its numbers.
Tata Curvv and Curvv EV sold 1,602 units, down 57.68% year-on-year, indicating reduced demand compared to their initial launch period. Mahindra BE 6 posted 1,495 units, up 60.06% year-on-year, showing growth in the electric vehicle segment.
Renault Duster entered the segment with 1,402 units sold as deliveries began. Volkswagen Taigun sold 908 units, down 42.89% year-on-year, but its facelift launch may improve future sales.
MG ZS EV registered 411 units, down 51.99% year-on-year, while Mahindra XUV400 reported 117 units, down 50.84% year-on-year. Citroen C3 Aircross posted 76 units, up 10.14% year-on-year. MG Astor dropped to 55 units, down 70.11% year-on-year. Citroen Basalt reported 53 units, down 47% year-on-year.
The segment remains highly competitive. Creta continues to lead, while Victoris and Seltos gain ground. New models like Sierra and Duster add to the competition. With updated models and new launches, the segment is expected to remain dynamic in the coming months.
