Of these, nearly 5,77,023 units were sold since FY2025, showing a sharp increase in demand over the last two years. The Chetak's early years saw modest sales, but volumes rose significantly in FY2025. That year, Bajaj Auto sold 2,39,087 Chetak units, an 114 percent increase over FY2024's 1,11,713 units. This growth made Bajaj Auto the third-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India during FY2025.
Sales Growth and Market Position
In FY2026, Bajaj Chetak sales climbed to 2,98,436 units, marking a 25 percent year-on-year increase. This was the first time Bajaj Auto ended a fiscal year as the second-largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer in the country. The strong sales performance also led to significant market share gains for the Chetak brand.
Bajaj Auto held a 4 percent share of India's electric two-wheeler market in FY2023. This share rose to 11 percent in FY2024 and doubled to 20 percent in FY2025. The company maintained a 20 percent share in FY2026. Early trends for FY2027 suggest further growth, with Bajaj Auto retailing about 39,500 electric two-wheelers between April 1 and May 6, 2026. This gave the company a 22 percent market share during this period.
Competitive Landscape and Product Updates
During the same period, TVS Motor Company sold 45,186 units, while Ather Energy retailed 32,434 units. HeroVida accounted for 18,112 units. The electric scooter segment remains highly competitive, with several brands vying for market share.
Bajaj Auto has responded to this competition by updating the Chetak range. The company introduced the revised ‘C Series’ naming, added new features, and increased top speeds. These updates aim to strengthen the Chetak's position in the growing electric scooter market.
