BYD Atto 2 electric spied: Set to join the compact EV race in India

​BYD has deliberately introduced new models in India. After the launch of the BYD Sealion 7, BYD is making plans to launch its most affordable compact electric SUV by the end of 2025. Recent rumors signal that a pre-production unit was recently spotted in full camouflage. The upcoming Atto 2 is being considered as the most accessible BYD car in India.

BYD currently has models like the Atto 3, Seal, eMax7, and Sealion 7. The Chinese electric automaker has decided to introduce the entry-level electric car for the first time under its portfolio. Let’s take a look at what the Atto 2 might like to offer for the Indian roads.

First revealed at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show

The first time the BYD Atto 2 was revealed was at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. The car was compact in design within the sub-4-meter concept. BYD Atto 2 is bounded by a front-mounted motor characterized by a WLTP range of around 312 km on a single charge.

However, the brand did not reveal that this same model would be launching for Indian buyers. A recent test mule of the BYD Atto 2 has resurfaced on the internet recently, testing on Indian roads.

What’s with the update?

As during the testing of the car on Indian roads, the body was fully covered in camouflage. However, if we see the spy shot, we can see the signature LED taillights, assuring that Atto 2 might be expected for its official debut in India. Considering the design and dimension of the car, the Atto 2 is fully compact with curvy body panels. The front fascia of the car might have the sleek LED headlamps and a rugged air dam section.

The car looks a bit sporty and large, thanks to its minimalist design. The side profile has a distinctive body cladding arched with sporty alloy wheels. The design does not seem to make much use of chrome accents through the contours.

Expected Features

The car has a range of features in the international market. However, it is not sure that the car will offer the same features as those that they offered in the Chinese and European markets. Although we can expect that the brand should have comprehensive features for the Indian customers as follows:

​P​erformance and Range

The Chinese variant of the car is equipped with a 45.1 kWh battery pack that revs up to about 175 HP and 290 Nm of peak torque. Hope to get a similar powertrain configuration for the Indian market. The car can move from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.9 seconds.

Conclusion

Since BYD has not confirmed any launch news for the BYD Atto 2. We assume that the car might be likely to be released by the end of 2025 or next year. However, if this car launches in India, then this might be the turning point for BYD as a brand to gain sales and position itself in the entry-level market in India.
