Force Gurkha expansion gains momentum through Tata dealership network in Africa
Force Gurkha enters African markets with Tata’s dealership network, enhancing availability, after-sales support, and brand visibility in the rugged SUV segment.

Force Motors' Gurkha SUV, known for its rugged design, is sold through Tata dealerships in several African countries. Tata Africa International acts as the official distributor and retailer for Force products in markets such as Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria, and Malawi. This arrangement allows Force Motors to maintain a presence in regions where it does not have its own operations.
Key Highlights
- Force Gurkha is sold through Tata dealerships in several African countries.
- African markets get a pickup version of the Gurkha not available in India.
- The Gurkha features a 2.6-liter diesel engine and standard four-wheel drive.
- In India, Gurkha prices range from Rs 16.31 lakh to Rs 17.63 lakh ex-showroom.
Distribution and Market Presence
Tata Africa International's role as distributor extends Force Motors' reach in Africa. Force Motors benefits from Tata's established dealership network, while Tata adds Force vehicles to its portfolio. Such collaborations are not unique to Africa. Similar arrangements exist in India, such as Aston Martin cars being sold through official distributors like Select Cars.
In African markets, customers can purchase not only the standard 3-door and 5-door Gurkha SUVs but also a pickup truck version. This pickup variant is not available in India, where Force has only tested it. The body style is less popular in the Indian market, making its local launch unlikely.
Product Range and Features

Besides the Gurkha, Force Motors exports commercial vehicles like the Urbania and Traveller to Africa. These models are known for their affordability and lower running costs compared to competitors. Force maintains a small but steady presence in the commercial vehicle sector in these countries.
The Force Gurkha is one of the few purpose-built off-road SUVs in India. Its design draws inspiration from the first-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class, featuring a boxy silhouette, round headlamps, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, and a tall stance. The interior is functional, with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, manual air conditioning, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment, and LED headlamps.
Safety Aids
Safety features are basic, including dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The Gurkha is powered by a 2.6-liter diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard, along with a low-range function and three individual differential locks.
Pricing and Alternatives
In India, the Gurkha is available in 3-door and 5-door body styles. Prices start at Rs 16.31 lakh for the 3-door and go up to Rs 17.63 lakh for the 5-door variant (ex-showroom). The Gurkha does not have a direct competitor but can serve as an alternative to the Maruti Jimny, Mahindra Thar, and Mahindra Thar Roxx.

CarBike 360 Says
Force Motors’ strategic collaboration with Tata dealerships in Africa marks a significant step in global expansion for the Gurkha. By leveraging an established sales and service network, the brand can enhance customer trust and accessibility. This move not only strengthens Gurkha’s international footprint but also positions it as a capable contender in Africa’s growing demand for rugged, off-road SUVs.
