Mini Cooper introduces the fourth-generation petrol 3-door hatchback as the last combustion engine-powered model in its lineup. The latest iteration includes a 3-door, 5-door, convertible with a soft-top, and a high-performance John Cooper Works variant. Mini has recently taken the wraps off the fourth generation of its iconic Cooper hatchback globally. This release marks a significant moment for the brand as it signifies the final chapter for the combustion engine-powered Mini Coopers.
Drawing inspiration from the original 1959 design, the fourth-gen Cooper hatchback continues to be a cornerstone of Mini's offerings. Since BMW revived the brand in 2000, Cooper has maintained its distinct charm and identity.
In India, Mini currently offers the third-generation Cooper hatchback with both petrol and electric powertrains. The anticipation is high as the fourth-generation lineup is expected to make its debut in the country later this year.

A Petrol Powerhouse
The new petrol model retains its distinctive design and upgrades its power with two turbo-petrol engines. While the fourth-gen Cooper hatchback visually resembles the Mini Cooper EV, it sits on a distinct platform and has no mechanical relation to the electric iteration.
The entry-level Cooper C features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with a 20 bhp boost, bringing the total to 156 bhp. The Cooper S, on the other hand, boasts a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 25 bhp increase, now producing 204 bhp.
Both variants will exclusively come with automatic transmissions and boast of updates to the suspension, damping system, and brakes for improved overall performance.
Visual Appeal and Design
Visually identical to its electric counterpart, the fourth-gen Cooper showcases a blend of tradition and modernity. The standard Cooper and Cooper S models are nearly indistinguishable from the new Cooper EV, with slightly larger front grilles and the iconic circular LED daytime running lights.
The fourth-gen Cooper features a minimalist dashboard design, emphasizing the OLED infotainment display. It is hailed as the first-round OLED touchscreen in a production car, showcasing critical information and controlling climate functions. The gear selector has been relocated below the screen, alongside essential controls like the handbrake button, turn-key starter, driving mode selector, and audio control dial.

Future of Mini: Going Electric
With the fourth-gen Cooper as the final combustion engine model, Mini continues its commitment to an electric future. While bidding farewell to combustion engines, Mini reinforces its commitment to electric mobility. The brand continues to evolve, with a focus on sustainability and innovation. The fourth-gen Cooper stands as a testament to Mini's heritage, seamlessly blending the classic design with modern technology. As Mini paves the way for an electric future, the legacy of the combustion engine-powered Cooper will remain inscribed in the brand's history.
