Hero Mavrick 440

Hero MotoCorp has officially discontinued the Mavrick 440 model across its Indian portfolio. The Mavrick 440 is the most premium motorcycle offered by the brand in the country. However, in just an 18-month time period, the bike lost its roar in the Indian two-wheeler market. This move marks a pivotal shift for the premier two-wheeler manufacturer, reflecting deeper strategic recalibrations in response to evolving consumer preferences and competitive pressures.

As per the latest sales reports of July 2025, Hero commuter bikes were performing well, and most sales surges were seen from the scooter segments. The VIDA powered by Hero also shows an upward trajectory. However, this is not the case with the brand’s premium motorcycle segment. The sales of the Mavrick 440 have slowed to a halt this year.

Hero Mavrick was based on Harley X440

The Hero Mavrick 440 was launched in 2024 as a naked street bike. The bike was based on the Harley-Davidson X440, which is also manufactured by Hero Motocorp in India. Hero priced this bike at Rs 1.99 (ex-showroom) but failed to attract any buyers in the market. It is the right time for Harley’s X440 to increase sales figures in the market.

The design and dimensions of the Mavrick 440 were completely different, and it was badged with the smaller 17-inch wheels. It was Hero’s most costly bike in the portfolio that was built to give tough competition to its rivals like the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda CB350, and Triumph Speed 400. However, the sales of the bike were lower when compared to the X440 itself.

Hero Mavrick 440: Engine Specs

The Hero Mavrick 440 was powered by a 440cc single-cylinder engine that churns out 27 HP of power and 36 Nm of maximum torque. This engine was equipped with a 6-speed gearbox via an assist and slipper clutch. The engine unleashes raw power, leading to the thumping exhaust sound that commands attention. With such an engine configuration, the bike can cover the distance of 0 to 100 in just 9.2 seconds. The top speed of the bike is about 150 kmph.

Features

The bike was complemented with a Y-shaped side cover with a rigged tank, sound, and a metal build to give you a robust design. The front fascia of the bike offers a round headlamp with signature H-shaped DRLs, which brings elegance with modern flair. The bike also offers maverick features:

  • LED Lighting Setup
  • Digital Speedometer
  • High-tensile Steel Trellis frame
  • Telescopic Front Suspension
  • 7-step adjustable twin shock rear suspension
  • Dual-Channel ABS

Reason for discontinuation: Sales came to a halt

After making its official debut in 2024, the all-new Mavrick has shown a positive response. During the festive season in 2024, the bike moved on an upward trajectory. However, in January 2025, only 50 units were sold across the nation. This came more deteriorated further as we moved towards Q1 of FY2026. Either the sales were in single digits or were zero. Due to bad sales figures, many dealers had no bookings for the bike. Alas, Hero decided to discontinue the bike by August 2025.

Conclusion

The discontinuation of the Hero Mavrick 440 signifies that the two-wheeler market is changing rapidly, and in premium bike segments, the brand had to price their bikes a bit higher than the regular commuters. This price rise will be accepted by a few enthusiasts and be deceptive to others. It is a clear indicator of Hero MotoCorp’s intent to consolidate its premium offerings and strengthen its portfolio.
