Honda Cars India has launched the much-anticipated new-generation Amaze, with prices starting at ₹8 lakh (ex-showroom). This sub-four-metre sedan enters a highly competitive market, going up against established rivals like the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
Variants and Features
The new-gen Amaze is offered in three well-equipped variants: V, VX, and ZX. Catering to diverse customer preferences, Honda has provided six striking colour options:
- Platinum White Pearl
- Lunar Silver Metallic
- Meteoroid Grey Metallic
- Golden Brown Metallic
- Obsidian Blue Pearl
- Radiant Red Metallic
Powering the Amaze is a 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, renowned for its smooth performance and efficiency. The engine is available with two transmission options: a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic, ensuring flexibility for both enthusiasts and convenience-seekers.
Market Response
The new Amaze has garnered significant interest, with the top-spec ZX variant alone accounting for 60% of total bookings. Of these, a notable 65% of customers have opted for the automatic (CVT) version, highlighting the growing demand for convenience-oriented vehicles in India.
The mid-spec VX variant has secured 30% of bookings, while the base variant, V, has contributed to the remaining 10% of sales, reflecting a clear consumer preference for feature-rich models.
Positioning and Competition
Honda’s updated Amaze looks to solidify its position in the highly competitive compact sedan segment. With its premium styling, advanced features, and reliable powertrain, the Amaze is set to challenge rivals such as the Hyundai Aura, Tata Tigor, and Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
Honda’s focus on equipping the Amaze with multiple variants and vibrant colour options underscores its strategy to attract a broad customer base, from first-time buyers to those seeking an upgrade.
The Verdict
With a fresh design, trusted performance, and a starting price of ₹8 lakh, the new-gen Amaze promises to deliver value in an increasingly demanding market. Whether it can outpace its rivals will depend on how well it resonates with buyers looking for a mix of style, comfort, and reliability in a compact sedan.
For now, the Amaze looks poised to reinforce Honda’s reputation in India’s automotive landscape.
