Hyundai Motor India launches ‘Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026’ for future mobility startups
Hyundai Motor India’s Innovation Challenge 2026 opens the door for startups to build future-ready mobility solutions in collaboration with HMIL.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has kicked off the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026, a six-month startup program designed to co-develop next-generation mobility and automotive technologies with high-potential startups. The initiative invites innovation across electrification, new mobility, connectivity, ADAS, AI-driven tools, and other future-ready vehicle technologies, positioning India’s startup ecosystem as a co-creator in Hyundai’s global mobility roadmap.
Backed by Hyundai Motor Group’s global open innovation platform ZER01NE, the challenge goes beyond a typical pitch contest to offer real-world pilot opportunities, access to Hyundai’s R&D ecosystem, and a clear path to commercialization. Applications are open until the end of June 2026, with the program managed by global startup accelerator and consulting platform LINK Innovation.
Six-Month Platform to Co-Create Next-Gen Mobility
The Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026 has been structured as a six‑month engagement, giving startups enough time to refine concepts into proof-of-concept deployments with Hyundai teams. The focus spans EV technologies, connected car platforms, advanced driver assistance systems, AI tools, and other next-gen vehicle solutions that can plug into Hyundai’s future product and mobility services roadmap.
Rather than limiting participation to a narrow brief, Hyundai has outlined 15 focus areas but is also encouraging applications that go beyond this list if they can deliver meaningful impact in mobility or automotive technology. This flexibility allows deep-tech, software, and hardware startups to bring differentiated ideas that may not fit standard categories but solve real-world problems.
Aligned with Hyundai’s Global Open Innovation Agenda

The program is supported by Hyundai Motor Group’s ZER01NE, the open innovation platform that connects startups with the group’s global R&D, design, and business units. ZER01NE has been steadily building an international portfolio of startups across AI, robotics, materials, energy, and mobility, and has run multiple accelerator cohorts and collaboration projects since its launch in 2018.
By anchoring the India-focused challenge within this broader network, HMIL is effectively giving selected startups a potential runway beyond the domestic market, including access to Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai Motor India Engineering, and other affiliates. For founders, that translates into a chance to scale validated solutions across regions and vehicle programs, not just a one-off pilot.
Structured selection with PoC Grants and Mentorship
Applications to the Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026 are being evaluated on a rolling basis, aligned with the application window that runs through June 2026. After an initial screening based on parameters such as problem relevance, solution maturity, and team capability, shortlisted startups undergo a deeper technology and product readiness assessment.
Finalists will pitch directly to HMIL’s top management, giving them exposure to senior decision-makers who can champion successful concepts internally. Selected startups stand to gain proof-of-concept (PoC) grants, hands-on mentorship from Hyundai subject matter experts, access to advanced testing infrastructure, exposure to Hyundai’s customer ecosystem, and even the possibility of future investment and long-term strategic partnerships.
Role of LINK Innovation and How to Apply
The challenge is being operated through a dedicated application platform managed by LINK Innovation, a global startup consulting and accelerator organization that specializes in open innovation programs and corporate–startup collaboration. LINK brings its experience in scouting, screening, and supporting startups, as well as its network of investors and industry partners, to ensure high-quality deal flow and structured founder support.
