JSW Motors, in partnership with Chery Automobiles, is preparing to launch the iCar V23 electric SUV in India. The vehicle, expected to be imported as CKD units, will largely retain the design and features of its international counterpart. The iCar V23 has been spotted testing, revealing its robust, boxy exterior and off-road-oriented design.
Key Highlights
- JSW Motors to launch iCar V23 electric SUV in India with Chery as technology partner
- iCar V23 features 4,220 mm length and up to 69.8 kWh battery with 550 km range
- AWD variant offers 81.76 kWh battery, 430 km NEDC range, and 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds
- JSW and Tata Elxsi partner to develop connected vehicle platforms at Pune engineering hub
Key Specifications and Features

The iCar V23 measures 4,220 mm in length, 1,915 mm in width, and 1,845 mm in height. It features a wheelbase of 2,735 mm. The test vehicle, heavily camouflaged, displays an upright front fascia, a chunky bumper, a slatted grille, and a prominent bonnet. Only a small portion of the lighting unit is visible, resembling the version sold in China and other Asian markets.
The side profile matches the international model, though the test mule sports a unique alloy wheel design. Large wheels, squared wheel arches, pull-type door handles, and roof rails contribute to its rugged appearance. Running boards may be optional or reserved for higher-spec variants.
At the rear, the iCar V23 includes a large windshield, lower-mounted tail lamps, and a simple bumper. A squarish external storage compartment, styled like a spare tire, is mounted on the tailgate. This compartment, larger on the test mule, may serve as functional storage for items such as charging cables or tools. JSW could consider offering a functional spare tire for the Indian market.
Powertrain and Performance
Globally, the iCar V23 is available in RWD single-motor and AWD dual-motor configurations. RWD variants offer battery options of 47.28 kWh LFP, 59.93 kWh LFP, and 69.8 kWh LFP, delivering ranges from 301 km to 550 km, depending on the variant. The AWD model uses an 81.76 kWh NMC battery, providing an NEDC range of 430 km. DC fast charging supports up to 104 kW.
The AWD variant accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 140 km/h. Off-road capabilities include an approach angle of 42 degrees, a departure angle of 41 degrees, 210 mm ground clearance, 600 mm water wading depth, and a maximum gradeability of 40%.
Launch Timeline and Ecosystem Development
JSW Motors plans to introduce the iCar V23 in India later this year. The SUV will compete with upcoming electric models such as the Thar EV. Ahead of the launch, JSW Motors has partnered with Tata Elxsi to develop next-generation connected and software-defined vehicle platforms.
The collaboration will establish the JNEXT–JSW NextGen Technology Center in Pune, focusing on connected features, vehicle software, and digital platforms. Tata Elxsi will contribute expertise in connected vehicle systems, OTA updates, user experience, cybersecurity, and AI-based solutions. These initiatives highlight JSW Motors' commitment to building a local technology ecosystem to support its upcoming electric vehicles, including the iCar V23.
