Key Highlights

  • India to see multiple plug-in hybrid launches with over 1,000 km range
  • Jetour T2 i-DM features a 1.5-litre engine and 26.7 kWh battery with 137 km EV range
  • BYD Leopard 8 and Rox Adamas offer high power outputs and support reverse charging

Jetour T2 i-DM Details

The MG Jetour T2 i-DM, set to launch under JSW Motors, is a prominent SUV in this segment. It features a 1.5-litre inline-four petrol engine producing 154 HP and 220 Nm. This engine works with a dual-motor electric setup and a 26.7 kWh battery, delivering a combined output of 221 HP and 390 Nm.

The vehicle uses a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (3DHT) system. Its electric-only range is 137 km, based on the NEDC cycle. The Jetour T2 can switch between two-wheel and four-wheel drive modes as needed.

Lepas L6 and Chery's Electric Sedan

The Lepas L6, which resembles the Tiggo 8 series, targets younger buyers. Chery has also patented an electric version of this model in India. The PHEV variant is expected to use the same mechanical setup as the Jetour T2.

Among the five, the only sedan offers a promised range of 1,200 km per full tank and charge. Priced at around USD 55,000 (Rs. 52.1 lakh), it uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric system, producing a total of 351 HP and 515 Nm. Its electric-only range is 105 km.

BYD Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 8 and Rox Adamas

BYD's Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 8 is a strong contender, signaling the brand's move beyond pure electric vehicles. It features a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 241 HP and 380 Nm, paired with a dual-motor setup and a 36 kWh BYD Blade battery. The total output reaches 737 HP and 760 Nm.

The Rox Adamas, from Chinese startup Rox Motor, is backed by companies like Xiaomi. It uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric system, delivering 469 HP and 740 Nm. The Adamas is equipped with a 56 kWh CATL battery. Both the BYD Leopard 8 and Rox Adamas support vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-load (V2L) reverse charging.
