Sales Performance and Market Context

March 2026 sales were distributed across both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and New Energy Vehicle (NEV) lineups. The 6,528 units sold represent growth on an already high base. In March 2025, the company sold 5,500 units, which was a 9% rise over the 5,050 units sold in March 2024. March 2025 was notable for electric vehicles, which made up over 85% of sales, including models like the Comet, ZS EV, and Windsor. The Windsor achieved its highest-ever monthly sales and became India's top-selling electric vehicle, surpassing the Tata Nexon EV.
In February 2026, JSW MG Motor India sold 4,957 units, reflecting a 24% year-on-year increase. The lower percentage growth in March 2026 is attributed to a higher base rather than reduced demand. The company has maintained a strong focus on electric vehicles for the past 18 months. In December 2024, EVs accounted for over 70% of monthly sales, with the Windsor contributing 3,785 units.
Business Initiatives and Financials
JSW MG Motor India introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan in September 2024. This plan allows consumers to rent batteries at ₹3.5 per kilometre, reducing upfront ownership costs. On the financial front, the company reported a net loss of ₹586 crore in FY24, down from ₹826 crore in FY23. This marks the lowest loss in five years. Revenue for FY24 grew by 4.64% to ₹7,990 crore. Cumulative losses over the past five years are approximately ₹3,000 crore.
To address growing demand, the company has announced a ₹5,000 crore investment to expand production capacity. This includes a second manufacturing plant in Gujarat. The expansion aims to increase annual capacity from over 100,000 units to more than 300,000 units. JSW MG Motor India plans to launch new models, including electric vehicles, every three to six months. The company was established in 2023 as a joint venture between JSW Group and SAIC Motor. Its manufacturing operations are based in Halol, Gujarat.
