Kia Vision Meta Turismo unveiled: Is this the Stinger GT’s bold successor?

Kia has revealed the Vision Meta Turismo concept, which could become the successor to the Stinger GT. The Stinger was a rear-wheel-drive liftback sedan produced from 2017 to 2023. While the all-electric Kia EV6 GT is often seen as the Stinger’s spiritual successor, it has not matched the Stinger’s emotional appeal. The Vision Meta Turismo concept, recently displayed at Milan Design Week after its debut in Korea last year, may fill this gap if it enters production.

Design and Interior Features

The Vision Meta Turismo concept focuses on three main areas: performance, spacious interiors, and advanced digital experiences. It follows Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design, describes the concept as a blend of bold design and advanced technology. Kia aims to make future mobility more engaging and enjoyable, beyond just transportation.

Exterior highlights include distinctive lightsabre-style LED DRLs, a blacked-out grille, aero-optimized alloy wheels, a large curved glass roof, L-shaped tail lights, and a layered rear bumper. The single-piece glass roof integrates both front and rear windscreens, offering panoramic views and enhancing the sense of space. The roof is supported by strong web-like structures to ensure safety.

Innovative Technology and Driving Experience

The interior features seats inspired by sci-fi spaceship designs. The driver’s seat is designed for focus and comfort, using mesh fabric for airflow and a lightweight frame for performance. The front passenger seat offers a lounge-like posture and can rotate 180 degrees.

The concept introduces gamification into the driving experience. The steering wheel draws inspiration from gaming controllers and allows users to select digital experience modes: Speedster, Dreamer, and Gamer. These modes adapt to user preferences and driving conditions. A virtual joystick gear shifter recreates the sensation of changing gears and generates virtual engine sounds and vibrations, enhancing the connection between driver and vehicle.

The Vision Meta Turismo also features a 'button' launch control and a GT boost button. These functions enable the electric vehicle to deliver instant acceleration by unlocking its full power.

Production Prospects

Kia has not announced a timeline for bringing the Vision Meta Turismo concept to production. The concept remains in the development phase. However, Karim Habib has confirmed that Kia is working to prepare the concept for assembly line production and eventual sales.
