Key Highlights

  • Land Rover introduces a new Vertex edition for urban-focused Defender buyers.
  • The Defender 110 gains a six-seat configuration with captain’s chairs and improved rear space.
  • Defender Octa V8 output reduced to 533 BHP to meet Euro 6e-bis emissions rules.
  • A new P380 mild-hybrid petrol engine was added with 375 BHP and 549 Nm torque.

New Vertex Edition Details

The Land Rover Defender Vertex edition joins the upper-end variants in the lineup. It features a larger front grille, body-colored exterior cladding, redesigned side skirts, and a roof spoiler. The model comes with 22-inch alloy wheels as standard, with an optional 20-inch wheel size available.

Land Rover states that the Vertex edition aims to offer a more road-focused appearance while maintaining the Defender’s core capabilities. Buyers of other Defender variants can also add the roof spoiler through an optional exterior styling package.

Interior and Seating Updates

The Defender 110 now offers a new six-seat cabin layout. This configuration features three rows with two seats each. The second row includes individual captain’s chairs that provide extra support and reclining functionality. Land Rover claims this arrangement improves rear passenger space and creates additional storage between the second-row seats.

Engine and Performance Changes

Land Rover has updated the Defender’s powertrain options. The long-serving supercharged ‘AJ’ V8 petrol engine is no longer available. The Defender Octa’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 now produces 533 BHP, reduced from 626 BHP. Torque remains unchanged, but the lower power output increases the 0-60 m/hr sprint time from 3.8 seconds to 4.2 seconds.

Land Rover says these changes help the Octa comply with the latest Euro 6e-bis emissions regulations. The exhaust system has also been revised, and the company claims it now delivers a more distinctive V8 exhaust note despite the reduced power.

A new P380 mild-hybrid petrol engine has joined the Defender range. This 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine develops 375 BHP and 549 Nm of torque, expanding the SUV’s petrol engine options. Other petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains remain unchanged.

Summary of Defender Updates

With these changes, Land Rover has refreshed the Defender lineup. The updates include a more lifestyle-oriented Vertex edition, expanded seating choices for the Defender 110, and a revised engine portfolio to meet current emissions standards.
