EV and LWB Models Lead Sales
BMW Group India's President and CEO, Hardeep Singh Brar, said that the company's focus on electric mobility has made it the leading choice in the luxury EV segment. He expressed confidence in maintaining this momentum for the rest of the year. Long-wheelbase (LWB) models played a significant role, making up 52 percent of BMW's total H1 sales with 4,428 units. This segment grew by 24 per cent compared to the previous year.
LWB vehicles, originally designed for the Chinese market, have gained popularity among Indian luxury car buyers. The extra rear-seat space appeals especially to those who prefer being chauffeur-driven. BMW currently offers LWB versions of the iX1 e-SUV, 5 Series, and 3 Series sedans in India. The next-generation BMW X5 will also be launched in an LWB variant.
Local Assembly and Pricing
All these LWB models are assembled locally in India, which helps reduce import duties compared to fully imported vehicles. The iX1 EV, priced at Rs 51.40 lakh ex-showroom, is the most affordable LWB model in the lineup.
Mini's Performance and Special Editions
BMW-owned Mini sold 504 cars in the first half of 2026, achieving more than 70 per cent growth year-over-year. The Mini Countryman SUV was the brand's most popular model during this period. The recently launched Countryman C trim has also seen strong demand. Other top sellers include the Cooper Convertible and the Cooper hatchback.
Mini introduced several special editions in 2026, such as the Mini Cooper S Victory, GP Inspired, and Cooper S Convertible JCW Pack. All these special editions have already sold out.
SUV Sales and Future Plans
Combined sales of BMW and Mini SUVs reached 5,926 units in H1 2026, marking a 35 per cent year-over-year increase. Earlier this year, BMW announced plans to introduce six all-new cars, four facelifts, and 17 product enhancements in 2026. Models launched so far include the X3 30 xDrive, M2 CS, M440i Convertible, and X6 M60i.
BMW Group India also plans to expand its retail network to 10 new cities in 2026. This expansion aims to meet growing luxury car demand beyond major metropolitan areas.
