Land Rover has officially unveiled the new Defender Octa Black, a stealth-infused, performance-laden luxury SUV that builds on the bold personality of the Defender range. Based on the performance-focused Defender Octa, the Octa Black is all about design drama and technological sophistication wrapped in a menacing blacked-out look.
A Darker, Bolder Take on the Iconic Defender
The Defender Octa Black comes draped in Narvik Black, Land Rover's deepest and most striking shade of black available in the Defender palette. Every angle of this SUV reflects its bespoke identity, with over 30 exterior components finished in black. This includes blacked-out rear scuff plates and a satin black powder coat on the front undershield. The quad exhausts are also gloss black, further enhancing the vehicle’s darkened aesthetics. Even the iconic Land Rover emblem on the grille is finished in black with a muted silver script.
Buyers can spec their Octa Black with wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches, all in gloss black with matching centre caps and Shadow Atlas Defender script. Behind the wheels are gloss black brake callipers, detailed with Sentient Silver lettering, yet another nod to the attention to detail in this limited-edition variant.
Interior Design
Inside, the Defender Octa Black continues its monochrome elegance with Ebony Semi Aniline Leather and Kvadrat upholstery across the performance seats. The interiors are plush yet sporty, with Carpathian Grey accents on the seat backs and armrests. The rugged yet luxurious cabin also features a Satin Black Powder-Coated Cross Car Beam, and for those wanting an even sportier aesthetic, chopped carbon fibre trims are available as optional extras.
Next-Gen Tech and Premium Audio Experience
The Defender Octa Black is not just about style; it’s packed with the latest features from JLR’s cutting-edge tech suite. The SUV now houses a larger 13.1-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen, replacing the older 11.4-inch unit, offering crisper visuals and better functionality. A key highlight is the addition of a driver-facing infrared camera mounted on the steering column, aimed at monitoring driver attentiveness, enhancing safety without being intrusive.
Lighting upgrades include new LED headlamps with signature graphics and smoked, flushed taillamps that blend into the rear profile. Sound duties are handled by a 700W, 15-speaker Meridian Surround Sound System, ensuring a rich in-cabin audio experience.
A BMW-Powered V8 Punch
Under the hood, the Defender Octa Black shares its heart with the standard Defender Octa, a BMW-sourced 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 mild-hybrid engine. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this powerhouse churns out 626 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, enabling a blistering 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 4 seconds, remarkable for a vehicle of this size and weight.
Complementing its straight-line speed is an advanced 6D Dynamic Suspension, designed to reduce roll, pitch, and dive during aggressive driving or off-road situations. The Octa Black also gets an OCTA driving mode, specially calibrated for loose terrains. It’s further supported by Land Rover’s Terrain Response system, offering multiple drive modes, including Sand, Mud and Ruts, Grass Gravel Snow, and Rock Crawl.
Conclusion
The Land Rover Defender Octa Black is set to attract luxury SUV buyers, and with its debut in India just around the corner, the Octa Black promises to be more than just a variant; it’s a statement of stealth luxury.
