Mahindra's website crashed due to a high volume of customers logging in to their website. Buyers were unable to proceed with their payment as Mahindra opened their portal for booking Scorpio N.
Mahindra Scorpio N has already garnered so much attention in the media and more so it was a name that was already very well known among the masses. It was highly unlikely that this new and updated version of the classic Scorpio from the house of Mahindra would not get the numbers its makers wanted. And therefore, when Mahindra began taking reservations for the Scorpio N on July 30, it undoubtedly garnered attention, but there was also a problem with the payment gateway provider. Many customers reported occasions when their payment was either not processed or they were completely unable to use the payment system.
The company asserts that it received up to one lakh reservations in only 30 minutes and that the first 25,000 units of the brand-new SUV were already spoken for in less than a minute. Mahindra had earlier stated that the Scorpio N's introductory prices, which range from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 23.90 lakh, would only be valid for the first 25,000 bookings before the prices increased.
It makes sense that people would want to be among the first 25,000 clients, but when the booking system crashed and people couldn't finish the procedure, many people feared that they would be automatically removed from the first 25,000 spots despite their timely attempts.
In fact, several clients who encountered the error while booking the SUV went on to vent their annoyance on Twitter. Customers said that despite waiting on the website well before 11 am (the stated time), the portal collapsed as soon as bookings opened, preventing them from finishing their purchases. The first 25,000 reservations were reportedly completed in under 55 seconds, and many consumers then received messages informing them that the pricing in effect at the time of delivery would apply to their reservations. Some even claimed they could not use the payment page at all.
However, Mahindra quickly admitted the issue and made it clear that the online booking system had timestamped the moment buyers hit the payment button. According to the sequence, the first 25,000 would be taken into consideration for introductory prices, Mahindra said in an official statement, assuring the clients that their time stamp before payment has been properly recorded.
Mahindra responded to Autocar India's request for more information by stating that it will contact each of the first 25,000 buyers directly regarding their booking confirmation within this month. Future reservations will ultimately receive a response. Additionally, it noted, that clients can monitor the progress of their reservations on the official website. Indeed, the business made it clear that some clients have already begun receiving their booking confirmations via email or viewing them on the corporate website.
Customers who have reserved the SUV can also take advantage of the "Variation Amendment Window" feature until August 15 to lock in their final choice of variant or color. Mahindra promises to update customers on the delivery date once a final decision has been made.
The costs for subsequent reservations, however, will be those in effect at the time of delivery. Mahindra will continue to accept Scorpio N reservations both online and at its dealerships. Deliveries are expected to start on September 26. The top-end Z8L type would be prioritized for the first round of deliveries, according to Mahindra, who claims that over 20,000 vehicles are scheduled for the initial rollout by December 2022.
