Maruti Suzuki India Limited has made a significant move for automotive safety enthusiasts across the nation. As per the latest reports, Maruti Suzuki has revealed that its two popular selling models get a major update with immediate effect. The popular models include the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Maruti Suzuki XL6. Both cars will now offer 6 airbags as a standard safety feature on all variants.
However, by implementing the safety features now mandatory, the prices of the car may increase on all selected variants. This bold move is set to raise the bar in the competitive Indian automotive market, putting Maruti Suzuki a step ahead in passenger safety.
Traditionally, safety features like multiple airbags have been reserved for premium variants or higher-end models under the Maruti Suzuki portfolio. Some models, like the Grand Vitara and Breeza, already come with 6 airbags as an option under safety features for customers. Now, with a major update in the Fronx and XL6, cars will be available with 6 airbags.
With this announcement, MSIL democratizes safety, ensuring that even entry-level buyers don’t have to compromise on crucial life-saving features. However, only the Ignis and S-Presso are the models that still offer 4 airbags as an option.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a subcompact SUV based on the design aesthetics of the Baleno. With the latest update feature, the car now comes with 6 airbags in addition to the safety features. The car comes in three variants: Delta+, Zeta, and the top model, Alpha. Each model is now updated with 6 airbags. Considering other safety features, the car offers ABS with EBD, 3-point seatbelts, ISOFIX anchorages, and Hill Hold Assist.
Under the hood, the car is powered by a 1.2L naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine. This engine is equipped with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT as an option for customers. There’s another engine that Fronx offers, which is clubbed with a CNG as standard, with 1.2L available with a 5-speed manual transmission only. The top variant comes with a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine.

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is a premium-segment MPV. The car is available in 6 variants, and with the latest major update, all 6 models now receive six airbags as a standard safety feature. The entry-level model is powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine. This engine is capable of generating 101 HP and 136.8 Nm of maximum torque.
Another engine comes with a factory-fitted CNG kit. Both models are now available with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. However, with such major safety updates, the prices of the car might rise in the upcoming days.
Maruti Suzuki’s two models are both the best-selling models in the passenger vehicle segment. The XL6 and Fronx offer better fuel economy and are spacious and comfortable while riding in the city and on the highway as well. Getting 6 airbags as an update will boost confidence and will make them have a positive impact, considering the safety aspects before buying a car.
