Engine and Performance Details
The AMG GLC 53 Coupe uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 449hp and 600Nm of torque. With overboost, torque rises to 640Nm for 10 seconds at 5,200 rpm. The 48V mild-hybrid system adds 23hp and 205Nm. The engine pairs with a 9-speed automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels through AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive.
Mercedes claims the GLC 53 Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100kph in 4.2 seconds. This is 0.6 seconds quicker than the AMG GLC 43 Coupe, which has a 421hp four-cylinder engine and is currently available in India. The engine is an updated version of the unit found in the GLE 53 Coupe and E 450 4Matic. Updates include new cylinder heads, improved intake and exhaust ports, and a new intake camshaft. It also features a larger intake system and a new intercooler.
Features and Equipment
The AMG GLC 53 Coupe is the first AMG SUV to offer Drift Mode, enabled by a powered rear-axle limited-slip differential. This feature comes with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package. The model also includes a new exhaust system with special resonators for a deeper sound, rear axle steering, adaptive dampers, and five driving modes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual.
Exterior and interior updates follow AMG styling, with aerodynamic enhancements and carbon fibre trims. The vehicle comes standard with 21-inch forged alloy wheels. The AMG GLC 53 Coupe was unveiled globally in February this year, in both SUV and Coupe forms. Only the Coupe version is expected for India.
Market Position and Pricing
Currently, the only sporty GLC variant in India is the AMG GLC 43 Coupe, priced from Rs 99.85 lakh (ex-showroom). It uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. The upcoming AMG GLC 53 Coupe will offer a significant upgrade in performance and features, along with a likely higher price point due to its six-cylinder engine and advanced technology.
