The Mercedes-Benz CLA BEV was evaluated on four main parameters: Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Vulnerable Road Users (VRU), and Safety Assist (SA). The sedan scored 94 percent in AOP, 89 percent in COP, 93 percent in VRU, and 85 percent in SA. These high scores reflect the vehicle's strong safety performance across different scenarios.

In the progressive deformable barrier test, all critical body areas for the front row received a 'good' rating. The full-width rigid barrier test showed adequate chest protection for rear occupants. The side mobile barrier test rated driver protection as good, while the side pole test rated the driver's chest protection as marginal. Far-side excursion for the driver was rated as adequate, and occupant-to-occupant protection was rated as good due to the central airbag. Both front and rear seat neck protection tests also received a 'good' rating.

Child and Pedestrian Safety

Six- and ten-year-old dummies were used in child occupant protection tests. In the frontal crash test, both dummies received a 'good' protection rating. The lateral impact test provided adequate head protection for the ten-year-old dummy, resulting in a total score of 23.7 out of 24. The installation of child seats was rated as easy.

For pedestrian and cyclist safety, the CLA BEV scored 14.6 for head protection, 4.5 for pelvis protection, 4.5 for femur protection, and 8.5 for knee and tibia protection. However, the A-pillars were rated as poor in impact protection tests.

Active Safety Features

The CLA BEV is equipped with several advanced safety systems. Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) operates from 7 kmph. The AEB pedestrian score was 8.7 out of 9. The vehicle lost 0.3 points in a scenario involving a child running behind a parked car at night, where the AEB (rear) was rated as marginal. The AEB cyclist score was 8 out of 8, with 0.8 out of 1 for cyclist dooring prevention. The AEB motorcyclist score was 6 out of 6, and the Lane Support System (LSS) motorcyclist score was 3 out of 3. LSS is operational from 45 kmph.

The CLA BEV also features an active bonnet, AEB for vulnerable road users, AEB for pedestrians (reverse), and AEB for car-to-car scenarios. The vehicle includes driver drowsiness detection but does not have occupant detection. The CLA BEV lost points in a head-on collision scenario due to poor autobrake performance.
