Mercedes-Benz India has launched the EQS 450 SUV, priced at ₹1.28 crore. The company has made it more affordable compared to the more expensive EQS 580 SUV, which retails for ₹1.41 crore. This is a major addition to the electric vehicle portfolio of Mercedes, especially in the luxury SUV segment.
Key Features and Specifications
The EQS 450 SUV is a 5-seater car, which will provide ample space and luxury. It shares the same 122 kWh battery pack with the EQS 580, but it's less powerful compared to the former, with a 360-hp electric motor set-up and 800 Nm of torque versus the EQS 580's 544 hp and 858 Nm. The EQS 450 SUV has an amazing MIDC range of 820 km, which is just 11 km more than its more powerful counterpart.
Performance-wise, the EQS 450 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds, thus being a tad slower than the EQS 580, which can do it in 4.7 seconds. Charging capability remains strong with 10-80% taking only 31 minutes using a 200 kW DC fast charger. On home charging, a full charge from 0-100% will take around 6.25 hours using a 22 kW AC wallbox charger.
Interior and Comfort
The interior of the EQS 450 SUV is designed with luxury and technology in mind. It features the stunning 56-inch Hyperscreen setup, which includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a front passenger screen, and a large 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin is equipped with a premium 5-speaker Burmester audio system, multi-zone automatic climate control, and numerous comfort features such as soft-close doors and illuminated running boards.
For one, the EQS 450 SUV has standard Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) along with nine airbags. This safety system is also engineered to ensure further safety of both the driver and the passenger in the vehicle.
Exterior Design
The EQS 450 SUV's exterior is refined, with plenty of styling options that make this model stand out. It can be ordered on striking 21-inch black alloy wheels and finished in what Mercedes describes as Electric Art Line for a more distinguished appearance compared to the sporty AMG Line offered on the EQS 580. On the whole, it is indeed Mercedes' concept of luxury joined by modern tastes.
Booking and Delivery Information
Official bookings for the EQS 450 SUV have opened, and the car is set to hit roads from February 2025. This model will be launched along with many other interesting models at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, including the Mercedes G 580 Edition One.
Since the launch in September last year, the EQS 580 SUV is already sold out. So far, this speaks of strong demand for Mercedes' electric offerings in India. The next allocation of this model is expected to be received in April.
Conclusion
The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 SUV is a landmark for the brand in India's luxury electric vehicle market. It is competitively priced, boasts an impressive range, advanced technology features, and a luxurious interior, making it an attractive option for consumers looking for an electric SUV that does not compromise on performance or comfort.
Given its focus on enhancing the electric vehicle portfolio, it's only through this model-the EQS 450 SUV-that Mercedes will bridge the gap created by the booming demand for green luxury vehicles in India. Catch the model's debut in dealerships and deliveries into the market towards the beginning of next year.
