Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a refreshed version of its flagship electric sedan, the EQS. The latest update brings significant improvements to its electrical system, efficiency, and onboard technology. The facelift aims to boost driving range, enhance performance, and improve the user experience. Subtle design changes also feature in the new model.
Key Highlights
- Mercedes-Benz EQS facelift introduces 800V architecture for faster charging and improved efficiency
- EQS 450+ variant now offers a WLTP range of up to 926 km
- New features include predictive air suspension and optional steer-by-wire system
- Battery capacity increases up to 122kWh with power outputs between 367 HP and 585 HP
- European and US market launch expected in late 2026
Key Technical Upgrades
The most notable upgrade is the adoption of an 800V electrical architecture. This change is designed to increase charging speeds and overall efficiency. The updated EQS range includes several variants: EQS 400, EQS 450+, EQS 500 4MATIC, and EQS 580 4MATIC. These options cater to different performance and drivetrain needs.
Driving range has improved across the lineup. The EQS 450+ now claims a WLTP range of up to 926 km, a significant increase over the previous version. The EQS 400 delivers up to 817 km, while the EQS 500 4MATIC and EQS 580 4MATIC offer up to 876 km. Battery capacity now reaches up to 122kWh, with a smaller 112kWh option for lower variants. Power output varies from 367 HP to 585 HP, depending on the model.
The new two-speed transmission on the rear axle aims to balance acceleration and efficiency. Regenerative braking has been enhanced, now capable of up to 385kW. The EQS supports DC fast charging up to 350kW, allowing for rapid range replenishment. Select markets also receive bidirectional charging, including vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid functions.
Advanced Features and Design Updates

The air suspension system now uses predictive technology. It relies on cloud-based data to adapt damping characteristics, using information from other connected vehicles. This can improve ride comfort and stability.
An optional steer-by-wire system, paired with a yoke-style steering wheel, is another new feature. This system removes the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the front wheels, using electronic signals instead. Mercedes-Benz plans to introduce this technology soon after launch, marking a first for a German production vehicle.
Visually, the EQS keeps its coupe-like silhouette but receives updated styling at the front and rear. The front grille now features illuminated star patterns and revised lighting. The rear light strip and bumper have also been redesigned. The car maintains a low drag coefficient of 0.20, supporting aerodynamic efficiency.
Inside, the EQS continues with the MBUX Hyperscreen, which combines three displays under one glass panel. The system now runs on the latest MB.OS software and supports over-the-air updates. A new AI-based virtual assistant and improved navigation, which considers energy use and charging stops, are included. Rear passengers have access to twin 13.1-inch displays. Additional features include a HEPA air filtration system, enhanced parking assist, and updated driver assistance systems.
Market Availability
The updated EQS is expected to launch in Europe and the US in the second half of 2026. There is no official confirmation for India, but a launch may follow later.
