Mercedes-Benz India has unveiled its latest electric offering, the EQS 580 4MATIC SUV, priced at INR 1.41 crore. This marks the second locally produced electric vehicle (EV) by the company, reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market under the Make-in-India initiative.
Expanding the BEV Line-up
With the introduction of the EQS 580, Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its range of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in India. This launch makes India the first country outside the United States to locally produce the seven-seater EQS 580 electric SUV.
Local Production in Pune
The EQS 580 is the second model, following the EQS sedan, to be manufactured at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Pune. Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO, Santosh Iyer, highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating, "This will be our sixth EV in India and the second car to be locally produced here. We are also proud that India becomes the first market outside the US to locally manufacture the EQS."
Expansion of Electric Vehicle Portfolio
In the first nine months of this year, Mercedes-Benz India has introduced three new BEVs—the EQA, EQS SUV 580, and the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV. This brings the company's electric vehicle lineup in India to six models, including the EQA, EQB, EQE SUV, EQS SUV, EQS sedan, and the Maybach EQS SUV 680.
Commitment to Electrification and Sustainability
Mercedes-Benz India's focus on local production aligns with its broader strategy to promote electrification and provide Indian consumers with more luxury electric vehicle options. Iyer emphasised that the localisation of the EQS SUV reflects the company's deep commitment to growing the Indian luxury EV market and supporting a greener, more sustainable future. The initiative is also in line with the Indian government's Make-in-India vision.
Conclusion
The launch of the EQS 580 4MATIC SUV strengthens Mercedes-Benz India's position in the luxury electric vehicle market, offering Indian customers a high-performance, locally produced EV that supports the country's shift toward sustainable mobility.
