Tata Motors has expanded its CNG vehicle line-up with the introduction of the Nexon iCNG in the Indian market. The iCNG variant joins the existing petrol, diesel, and electric versions of the popular sub-compact SUV. Priced between Rs. 8.99 lakh and Rs. 14.59 lakh (ex-showroom), the Nexon iCNG strives to offer a powerful and feature-rich alternative in the CNG-powered SUV segment. This launch comes as Tata Motors reports that CNG vehicles contribute approximately 21% of its overall sales in India.
The Nexon iCNG stands out with its performance specifications and innovative design:
- Engine output: 98 bhp and 170 Nm of torque
- Transmission options: 6-speed manual and AMT
- Unique feature: Direct-start capability on CNG mode
One of the key highlights of the Nexon iCNG is its twin-cylinder setup, a feature shared with other Tata CNG models. This configuration places two slim cylinders side by side, resulting in increased cargo space compared to traditional CNG setups.
The new CNG variant is available in eight different personas, as Tata Motors refers to its trim levels:
| Persona | Price (Ex-Showroom) |
| Smart (O) | Rs. 8.99 lakh |
| Smart + | Rs. 9.69 lakh |
| Smart +S | Rs. 9.99 lakh |
| Pure | Rs. 10.69 lakh |
| Pure S | Rs. 10.99 lakh |
| Creative | Rs. 11.69 lakh |
| Creative + | Rs. 12.19 lakh |
| Fearless + PS | Rs. 14.59 lakh |
Notable amenities of the Tata Nexon iCNG include:
- Touchscreen infotainment display
- 10.25-inch all-digital driver display
- 360-degree camera system
- Leatherette seating
- Ventilated front seats
- Voice-enabled panoramic sunroof
Safety is also a priority, with all variants of the Nexon iCNG coming standard with six airbags.
The introduction of the Nexon iCNG follows the success of other CNG models in Tata's line-up, including the Tiago, Tigor, Punch, and Altroz. This move further diversifies Tata's offerings in the alternative fuel segment, catering to consumers looking for more economical and environmentally friendly options without compromising on performance or features.
As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the launch of the Nexon iCNG represents a significant step in bringing CNG technology to the SUV segment.
