Pricing and Market Position

The Nissan Gravite is a badge-engineered version of the Renault Triber. While the Triber was launched last year at Rs 6.29 lakh (ex-showroom) and now starts at Rs 5.76 lakh (ex-showroom), the Gravite undercuts it with a starting price of Rs 5.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The Gravite’s variant lineup includes Visia, Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna, and the limited Launch Edition. AMT options start from the N-Connecta variant. The Gravite’s main competitors are the Renault Triber and, to a lesser extent, the Maruti Suzuki Eeco.

The Launch Edition is limited to 1001 units and is priced between Rs 8.35 lakh and Rs 8.93 lakh (ex-showroom). In comparison, the Triber’s top-spec Emotion variant costs between Rs 7.91 lakh and Rs 8.39 lakh (ex-showroom). The Gravite Launch Edition offers more features at the higher end of the range.

Features and Practicality

The Gravite Launch Edition includes exclusive exterior orange highlights on the bumpers and side decals. Inside, it features JBL speakers, a dual-channel dashcam, an air purifier, neck and backrest cushions, and ambient lighting. Some interior features can be retrofitted from Nissan’s accessory range. The dashcam is neatly installed, but the ambient lighting’s wiring is visible. JBL speakers offer improved sound over the standard model, though the tested unit lacked the air purifier and cushions.

The Gravite’s exterior design features a larger grille, distinctive wheel caps, and bold bumpers. The interior uses the older dashboard design from the pre-facelift Triber, but retains two gloveboxes (one cooled) and a cooled compartment between the front seats. The driver has a dedicated armrest, but adjustable headrests are only available for the second and third rows.

The second row offers a reclining and sliding 60-40 split bench with one-touch tumble for easier access to the third row. The third row suits children or short adults for brief trips and can be removed to expand boot space to about 635L. With all seats up, boot space is minimal. AC vents are provided for both rear rows, and the AC is manual single-zone. The proximity-based key fob handles door locking and unlocking reliably.

Engine and Driving Experience

The Gravite uses a 1.0L 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 72 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The manual gearbox offers light shifts and a well-calibrated clutch. The engine delivers good low-end torque and is suitable for city driving and inclines, but lacks excitement for spirited driving. Ride comfort is decent, with adequate bump absorption and ground clearance. There is noticeable body roll and limited steering feedback, but this suits the target demographic.

Value Proposition

The Gravite focuses on space, flexibility, and affordability rather than maximum power or features. It is a practical choice for families seeking a 5+2 seater within budget. Notable features include steering-mounted controls, cruise control, auto headlights, rain-sensing wipers, an 8-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, powered and auto-folding ORVMs, a TFT instrument cluster, reversing camera, and faux suede upholstery. The second row offers ample knee room and sliding seats, though rear sunshades and a center armrest are missing. No sub-4m SUV currently offers a boot as large or sliding rear seats like the Gravite. For budget-conscious buyers, the Gravite stands as a strong alternative to the Renault Triber.
