The Indian automotive industry is reshaping its persona with the launch of the latest iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara. As per the latest reports, Maruti Suzuki and Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi have inaugurated the all-new Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara production line, followed by the inauguration of the first Suzuki plant to produce hybrid battery electrodes.
The inauguration of these two major projects was held at the Suzuki Motor Plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat. The event took place in the presence of Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Honorable Bhupendra Patel, and the Ambassador of Japan, Keiichi Ono. Maruti Suzuki’s e-Vitara is set to debut in India on September 3, with export plans spanning more than 100 countries—from advanced automotive markets like Europe and Japan.
Production Innovations and Battery Localization
Today, with the inauguration of Maruti Suzuki’s e-Vitara, PM Narendra Modi also inaugurated a new TDS lithium-ion battery plant as a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. This joint venture will bring huge research and development to facilitate the manufacturing of the hybrid battery electrodes. This will amplify the local boost of India’s supply chain for its electric vehicles.
Under this joint venture, about 80% of the battery value will be controlled and produced domestically. This initiative supports India’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and “Make in India,” while catering to the rising domestic and export demand for electric vehicles. As the project opens for the upcoming manufacturing of BEVs, Modiji called this day a ‘special day’ in India’s automobile industry.
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara: Features, Range, and Variants

The first variant of e-Vitara was revealed globally in Europe in 2024. However, the international model was displayed at the Bharat Auto Expo 2025. The company revamped the pre-existing model and built on the advanced Heartec-e platform. The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara offers bold, EVX-inspired styling and angular LED headlamps at the front fascia. Under the hood, the car will be powered by two battery options for Indian customers.
The 49 kWh battery pack will be offered as standard in all variants, which will be capable of producing 142 HP of power and 193 Nm of torque. The battery is also capable of providing a WLTP range of about 346 km on a single charge. On the other hand, a 61 kWh battery configuration revs up to 171 HP of power with 193 Nm of peak torque. With a larger battery, the car will be available in a dual-motor AWD setup.
Strategic Impact for India and Suzuki
With the launch of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, the brand has now entered the game of electric power vehicles in India. As the first EV car from Suzuki, it will also be the first EV model to be exported globally, especially to the markets of Europe and Japan. The e-Vitara’s global export strategy and local battery production mark a turning point for both Maruti Suzuki and India’s auto sector.
Conclusion
PM Narendra Modi endorses the production unit of the very first Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara in India. With the inauguration of Suzuki's new plant to boost local battery production, manufacturing signals a new era for India’s EV sector. This collaboration stands as a blueprint for green mobility and automotive innovation worldwide.
