Range Rover has confirmed its second all-electric model, the Range Rover Sport Electric, following a private prototype preview at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The full public reveal and UK market launch are set for later this year. This announcement marks Range Rover's continued expansion into the luxury electric SUV market.
Key Highlights
- The Range Rover Sport Electric was previewed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed before its public launch in 2026.
- Model features updated chassis tuning and sound engineering for a distinct driving character.
- The electric version completes the Range Rover Sport powertrain lineup, including hybrid and petrol options.
- Full technical details and pricing for the Sport Electric are expected to be released in 2026.
Range Rover Sport Electric Preview
The Range Rover Sport Electric follows the earlier unveiling of the Range Rover Electric, which appeared at several British events over the summer. The Sport Electric will maintain the familiar design language of the Range Rover Sport but will feature a fully electric powertrain. The company states that this new powertrain will deliver stronger performance than previous versions.
During the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Range Rover presented the Sport Electric prototype at a private event. The prototype was driven on the Goodwood Motor Circuit, referencing past endurance tests such as a stair climb in China and a spillway ascent in Iceland. These demonstrations highlighted the vehicle's capabilities and performance focus.
Technical Updates and Future Plans
Range Rover has equipped the new Sport Electric with updated chassis tuning and sound engineering. These features aim to give the electric model a distinct driving character compared to other vehicles in the lineup. Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, stated that the electric powertrain would enhance the model's identity. He emphasised that the Goodwood preview offered only a partial look ahead of the full debut later in the year.
Once launched, the Range Rover Sport Electric will complete the model's powertrain lineup. The current options include a plug-in hybrid, a mild-hybrid V8 petrol engine, and six-cylinder petrol and diesel variants. Range Rover plans to release further technical details and pricing for the Sport Electric in 2026.
The company has also announced that all models in its lineup will be available as electric hybrids, with fully electric versions planned before 2030. This strategy aligns with broader industry trends toward electrification and reduced emissions in the luxury SUV segment.
CarBike 360 Says
The upcoming Range Rover Sport Electric represents a significant step in Land Rover’s electrification journey, blending its signature luxury with cutting-edge EV performance. Following its Goodwood showcase, anticipation continues to build ahead of the 2026 launch, where it is expected to set new benchmarks in refinement, capability, and sustainable mobility within the premium SUV segment.
