Renault Bridger to Be Produced in India for Global Markets
Renault will manufacture the Bridger sub-compact SUV in India for both domestic and export markets. The Bridger features a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, with an EV version planned. A Nissan variant is also expected.

Renault has announced that India will serve as a global production hub for its new sub-compact SUV, the Bridger. The facility will manufacture both right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) models. LHD units will be exported to developing nations, while RHD models will include shipments to South Africa, one of Renault’s significant markets.
Key Highlights
- India will produce Renault Bridger for global markets including South Africa
- Bridger marks Renault's return to sub-compact segment after 7 to 8 years
- Model will offer a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and future EV variant
- A Nissan variant of the Bridger is expected after Renault's launch
Renault Returns to Sub-Compact Segment
The Bridger marks Renault's re-entry into the sub-compact segment after a gap of nearly seven to eight years. The company last competed in this category with the Pulse hatchback, which was based on the Nissan Micra. The sub-compact SUV segment has seen increased competition, with Skoda achieving notable success with the Kylaq. Renault aims to capture a share of this growing market.
Bridger Features and Future Plans
Renault revealed the Bridger earlier this year. The new model will compete with other sub-compact SUVs in its class. The Bridger will launch with a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. Renault also plans to introduce an electric vehicle (EV) version of the Bridger in the future.
Industry sources expect that Nissan will release its own variant of the Bridger after Renault’s launch. This strategy will allow Nissan to compete with models such as the Mahindra XUV3XO in the sub-compact SUV segment.
